Question:

Can anyone give advise where to stay for a family of 5 in England and Italy? Close to sites but also in a quaint area in Italy to be with locals. How expensive is it? Are air B&Bs best or rent apartments? Thank you planning to go in August.

My fiance and I went to Italy last august/September. We used air bnb in Rome, Venice, and part of the cinque Terre. Rome worked out amazingly. We were in the area of the embassies and it was accessible to everything including a couple blocks from a major train station. Venice also worked really well. Cinque Terre we had to use a hotel one night and had a not so great but nothing wrong with it air bnb the next night. I think our challenge was limited rentals in the Cinque Terre and booking shortly before travel. We booked only about a month before travel.

We went to England and Wales with our 19 and 21 year old daughters and stayed in airbnb houses/apartments. First time and great experience. Where are you traveling to in England?

We stayed in amazing air bnb's this fall in the UK and Ireland! Also a 3-day stay in Rome. We did a couple 1 night hotel stays too, and the air bnb's were so, so much better!! Great value, really high quality bedding.

Homeaway is also a really good site for accommodations...I use them all the time. I recently used them in Florence, Rome, Venice, Santorini, Maui and Kauai.

airbnb has worked well for me too. In Rome, I'd recommend Trastevere, great restaurants and markets, easy tram ride to the city centre

Here's the actual links
to the places we stayed in. All on the cheaper side, but amazing value!! If you spend a bit more you can get even nicer places. So much more affordable than hotels.

I'd say air bnb all the way. Had a friend use air bnb for a trip to Paris and said quality for the price could not be beat.

Where to Stay for a Family of 5 in England and Italy

Planning a trip to England and Italy with a family of five can be an exciting yet challenging endeavor. Finding the right accommodation that suits your needs, budget, and preferences is crucial for a memorable and enjoyable vacation. In this blog post, we'll explore some options and provide insights to help you make an informed decision.

England

When visiting England with a family of five, consider staying in a rental apartment or house. This option typically offers more space, privacy, and the convenience of having a kitchen to prepare meals, which can be cost-effective for larger families. Popular destinations like London, Bath, and York offer a wide range of rental options through platforms like Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway.

Alternatively, you could opt for family-friendly hotels or bed and breakfasts (B&Bs). While these may be more expensive, they often provide amenities like on-site restaurants, concierge services, and family-friendly activities.

Italy

In Italy, renting an apartment or villa in a quaint area can be an excellent way to immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the authentic Italian lifestyle. Regions like Tuscany, Umbria, and Amalfi Coast offer charming villages and towns with a rich history and stunning landscapes.

Airbnb and other vacation rental platforms can be great resources for finding local accommodations. Not only will you have more space for your family, but you'll also have the opportunity to interact with locals and potentially save money by cooking your own meals.

Cost Considerations

The cost of accommodation in England and Italy can vary significantly depending on the location, time of year, and the type of accommodation you choose. Generally, larger cities like London and Rome tend to be more expensive, while smaller towns and rural areas offer more affordable options.

Renting an apartment or villa can be a cost-effective choice for families, especially if you plan to stay for an extended period. However, be prepared to pay a premium for prime locations or during peak travel seasons.

It's also important to factor in additional expenses such as transportation, meals, and activities when budgeting for your trip.

Final Thoughts

When traveling to England and Italy with a family of five, consider a combination of rental apartments or villas and hotels or B&Bs to strike a balance between budget, comfort, and cultural experience. Take the time to research and compare different accommodation options, read reviews, and book in advance to secure the best deals.

Remember, the key to a successful family vacation is finding accommodations that meet your needs, budget, and preferences, allowing you to create lasting memories together.
