We saw plenty of sloths on the pacific side. Look up Manuel Antonio Park for a start.

The Jaguar Rescue centre in Puerto Viejo is amazing! It's a rescue centre for local animals that either can't make it on their own or they take them in and help them to recover and then release them again. They have baby sloths and adult ones amongst a TON of amazing animals like Monkeys, albino deer, birds, wild cats. I also LOVE this town, greta beaches, laid back. A couple friends of mine live there and run B&B and also book vacation homes. They would be happy to help you out Anna Hickman - Travel Consultant with Costa Rican Vacations

PV is great. Highly recommend the Pacific, Caribbean side....but Jaco beach is pretty fun too.

Carara Narional Park was far less crowded and touristy than Manuel Antonio an we actually saw more sloths and monkeys there. It was a truly enjoyable day without all the tourist hustle!

Caracara was great for Scarlet Macaws too! But doesn’t have the lovely beach.

We stayed near Playas del Coco/Hermosa area and did an amazing rainforest tour with a company called Costours https://costour.co/ . The owner is Canadian and speaks English, French, and Spanish and he and the staff were wonderful. We were so close to sloths we could almost touch them. We also saw lots of other creatures, had great explanations of the plants, and a delicious lunch. The tour included everything and it was amazing. We did another local tour with them and I can’t recommend them enough. Highlight of our three weeks. He does several other tours and may also customize for you.

Valerie sounds amazing, I’ll look into it

Last spring we also did Manuel Antonio and it was beautiful but any sloth watching was through a high powered telescopic lens.

Last spring I took my children to Fincaverdelodge.com near Liberia. They are a refuge for animals. There were more animals there then all of Central America when we went on our three month trip. Stay in a cabin on site if available. Baby hummingbirds were in their nest right outside the cabin on a two foot bush. Lydia, always raised butterflies and indigenous plants. West jet had a direct non stop flight from Calgary. They will pick you up. Great food there too!

There is a sanctuary about 1/2 outside San Jose https://www.facebook.com/costaricaanimalrescuecenter/

Exploring Costa Rica: Finding Sloths
Planning a vacation to Costa Rica in March with your family sounds like a fantastic idea! Costa Rica is known for its lush rainforests and diverse wildlife, including the adorable sloths. While most resorts are located on the Pacific side of the country, there are still plenty of opportunities to see sloths either in a sanctuary or in the wild.
Sloth Sanctuary Recommendations
One highly recommended sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica is the Aviarios Sloth Sanctuary located on the Caribbean side of the country. This sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating sloths, and visitors have the opportunity to see these fascinating creatures up close.
Excursions from Pacific Side Resorts
While most resorts are on the Pacific side, many of them offer excursions to explore the diverse wildlife and natural beauty of Costa Rica. You can inquire with your resort about guided tours to sloth habitats or national parks where sloths are commonly spotted.
Some popular excursions from Pacific side resorts include visits to Manuel Antonio National Park, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, and Arenal Volcano National Park, all of which are known for their abundant wildlife, including sloths.
Final Thoughts
Costa Rica is a paradise for nature lovers, and seeing sloths in their natural habitat is a memorable experience for both adults and children. Make sure to do some research and plan ahead to maximize your chances of spotting these adorable creatures during your vacation.

We are considering doing a March vacation to Costa Rica (2 adults & a 3-year old). I know most resorts are on the Pacific side, but we would absolutely love to see some sloths (at a sanctuary or in the wild). Any recommendations? Do the Pacific side resorts do excursions?
