You can also fly into Nanaimo on westjet now, direct. The distance to Parksville is about the same from Nanaimo or Comox. There might be a good flight price right now. I just booked Nanaimo for September long weekend for $331 per person.

Fly to nanaimo, they have rental cars at the airport, but is summer so good luck. air canada has hourly connections from Vancouver. Or look into water taxi from downtown Vancouver, we took it last summer for 99 dollars per person, my kid loved it.
Curt
Water taxi is fun ! Good idea

Tigh na Mara is a great resort. Great food deals at happy hour too. Grotto pool is very cool.
Curt
Yes I looked yesterday and would really like to stay there what a nice place
Jolene
I second Tigh na Mara. It is a fabulous resort & location. Food & cocktails are outstanding.

Airmiles has a voucher for 1 night accommodation, mineral pool passed and breakfast. For 2 people. The rooms it covers have a king bed and Murphy bed, kitchenette, balcony. I'm sure you could have your 6 yr old included. Lovely place to stay!

Heather Hild is fantastic!!!!!!!

Parksville is great. If you want a fun day trip, drive up to French Creek and take the passenger-only ferry to Lasqueti Island. There isn't much of a "town" at False Bay, but there is a lovely little pub and hotel where you can grab lunch, and the post office (open MWF only!) will let you hand-cancel your mail, if you ask nicely.
Debbie
Just stayed at Sandcastle inn at Parksville. $85 and EXTREMELY clean.
Debbie
Also check out forest cottages at Beach Acres Resort. Stand alone cottages with kitchens
Curt
I will. Sounds nice.

Lots of sand dollars on the beach.

You are missing a beautiful drive that time of year. My grandsons (now 7 and 5) love the stops along the way - the Enchanted Forest for example.
Curt
Yes I wanted to drive and still contemplating what will work best for us
Tracey
Stop half way if you think it's too much for one day... it's a lovely drive. Driving and taking the ferry will certainly be less than flying and renting a car.
Caroline
Your six year old would love the ferries and the harbours and the other boats. Dollar stores have lots of activity books et al to occupy some road time. Car outside-observation games are fun as well....I spy something that is red.....Getting to the prize (Parksville) could e made into 1/2 the fun.....
Linda
I'm driving back from Vancouver next week: really looking forward to it!
Jeremy
My parents took me on that drive many times when I was young and I always loved it. Map out a route with lots of stops. You'd miss so many interesting and fun places by flying.
Laura
Do a one night stop over, and drive it. Salmon Arm is a great 1/2 way point.
Curt
Our only problem with driving is it cuts 4 days off our vacation . As fun as the drive is I am not sure 4 days of driving is what we want to do. We may still drive as that was our original plan but when we looked at 13.5 drive hours add stops in there and those are very long days. I think Trail is more of the half way mark as Salmon Arm is only 5 hours. We did that drive many times and been to Enchanted Forest a few times as well fun stop looking for new adventures on the Coast thanks for all the great suggestions. When we get the cost for flights and car rental I am sure we will be driving but want to be optimistic
Laura
I have done the drive a bunch, I am from the island. I have never gone through Trail.
Linda
Highway 3 is a lot slower, but also more scenic, than the TCH: yu could go one way and come back the other, or detour through the Okanagan.
Lou
Although it's a lovely drive, by the time you factor in hotel , meal, gas , ferry costs, flying might be the best option.

Planning a Summer Vacation from Calgary to Parksville, BC
Greetings, fellow travelers! Summer is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to start planning your next adventure. If you're looking to explore the beautiful landscapes of British Columbia without the hassle of a long drive, flying might be the way to go, especially with a 6-year-old in tow.
Choosing a Travel Agent
When it comes to booking flights, hotels, and car rentals, working with a reputable travel agent can save you a lot of time and stress. Here are a few suggestions:
- Flight Centre: With over 1,000 locations worldwide, Flight Centre is a trusted name in the travel industry. Their agents are knowledgeable and can help you find the best deals on flights, accommodations, and transportation.
- Expedia Cruises: While primarily known for their online booking platform, Expedia Cruises also has a team of travel agents who can assist you with planning your trip. They offer package deals and have access to exclusive discounts.
- Local Travel Agencies: Don't overlook local travel agencies in your area. They often have insider knowledge and can provide personalized service tailored to your specific needs.
Tips for a Smooth Trip
To make the most of your vacation, here are a few tips:
- Book Early: Flights and accommodations tend to get more expensive the closer you get to your travel dates. Booking well in advance can help you secure better rates.
- Consider Travel Insurance: With a 6-year-old in tow, travel insurance can provide peace of mind in case of any unexpected situations or emergencies.
- Research Activities: Parksville and the surrounding areas offer plenty of family-friendly activities, from beaches to parks and attractions. Plan ahead to make the most of your time there.
No matter which travel agent you choose, they can help you navigate the process and ensure a stress-free and memorable vacation. Happy travels!
