Sarah
Cinque terre is by far the best place I've ever been! The locals are so friendly, food is amazing, manarola has a cool swimming hole in the ocean and of course the hikes between each town!!
Terri
We stayed in an airbnb in Monteroso al Mare and hiked between all the towns last year. 100% happy we stayed in the Cinque Terre and did not train in and out. Hiking so nice before all the tourists arrive...lol. Monteroso is cute and has a huge swimming beach. We flew straight to Venice then took the train to Monteroso. From there we trained down with stops in Florence, Rome and Sorrento (to see Pompeii). Awesome trip! Enjoy

My best advice is to get the app CityMaps2Go by Ulmon. Super helpful for navigating the cities and you can tag and bookmark places like attractions, restaurants, etc.

Be prepared for high heat and humidity in the month of July!

I believe you will need to register in advance to enter Cinque Terre. Thanks to its overwhelming tourist popularity.

Italy is a remarkable destination for families, offering a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. With an 11 and a 14-year-old in tow, your upcoming trip to Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast promises to be an unforgettable adventure. Here are some of my favorite activities and must-see places for your itinerary.
Venice
- Gondola Ride: No visit to Venice is complete without a romantic gondola ride through the city's iconic canals. It's an experience your kids will cherish forever.
- St. Mark's Square: This iconic square is a hub of activity, surrounded by stunning architecture, including St. Mark's Basilica. Explore the square, feed the pigeons, and take in the lively atmosphere.
- Murano and Burano Islands: Take a day trip to these charming islands, known for their glass-blowing and lace-making traditions, respectively. Your kids will love the colorful houses and the opportunity to witness traditional crafts.
Florence
- Piazza della Signoria: This historic square is home to impressive statues, including Michelangelo's David (a replica), and the Palazzo Vecchio, where you can climb the tower for stunning city views.

- Gelato Indulgence: No trip to Italy is complete without indulging in the country's world-famous gelato. Florence is home to some of the best gelaterias, where you can savor authentic flavors like pistachio and stracciatella.
Cinque Terre
- Hiking the Coastal Trails: The Cinque Terre is a hiker's paradise, with stunning trails connecting the five picturesque villages. Your boys will love the scenic routes, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Swimming and Sunbathing: The crystal-clear waters and rocky beaches of the Cinque Terre are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Pack your swimsuits and towels for a refreshing dip in the sea.
