bring deoderant (the stuff in japan sucks), and keep in mind that it's gonna be really hot and humid (especially in kansai)
with that being said, i personally prefer osaka and kyoto to tokyo. there are so many cool things to do there. while in osaka, definitely try to talk with the local people. The people in Osaka are known for being friendly and outgoing.
Justin
dotonbori in osaka is a must-see. i lived in osaka for over a year, so if you have any particular questions, feel free to ask

Justin thanks for the tips!!!

I’m going to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka too! But in September. Interested to know what u would recommend food and places to visit?
Justin
osaka castle is really cool, fushimi inari in Kyoto is a nice hike. There is really so much to see and do. I can’t recommend any sushi places as I don’t care for seafood, but while in Osaka you gotta have okonomiyaki! There is a good restaurant in dotonbori, I can ask around for the name of it if you like..

Anything in particular you guys are interested in?

Justin any recommendation for an onsen experience in Kyoto/Osaka area? There are several overlooking Lake Biwa, any thoughts on those?
Justin
Gloria sorry, i wasn't too into the onsen scene.. while i was there i was constantly wanting to see as much as possible and would get anxiety if i stayed still for more than 5mins. lol
The only one I have been to is called 'spa world' in Osaka. it's basically an onsen resort, with a lot of different styles to try. it's great if you wanna try a bunch out in a short time, but probably not the onsen experience you are looking for. From what I hear, Arima onsen is the best and located just outside of Kobe.

Are you into anime/jgames? Summer Comiket runs the 10th-12th and is worth checking out if you can handle crowds. There are a lot of cool things in the area around Tokyo Big Sight too.

Fushimi inari (the tori gates ) is really nice -it’s on the way to Nara which is about an hour away from Kyoto. In Nara they have the largest Buddha statue in japan in todai-ji temple , it’s really nice! There’s a bunch of deer in the pathway to the temple and in the surrounding park(they can be a bit aggressive around food so be careful!)

In Tokyo favourite free view of the city is the Tokyo metropolitan building! It’s close to shinjuku station (about 10-15 minute walk
