calforex in Chinook, I agree to purchase and bring cash with you.Scotiabank has machines in mexico, rates are better, otherwise try using a more well known bank.

I'm with Scotiabank so I always use that machine in PV because it's right near our resort!

So it looks like ICE is the best rate, better than our bank (BMO) and better than CalForex.

If I am not mistaken there was also a local fee for the ATM machine as well as a fee from my Canadian bank. Maybe check with your bank to be sure. Would be a bad deal to pull out $20 and get charged $10 in fees.

Correct. Best is to use ATM in Mexico, but minimize the number of times you do so.

Canex Forex in Eau Claire Market is as good and frequently better than calforex (in Chinook and on 8th Ave). Always call both of them first!

The Best Way to Exchange CAD for MXN in Calgary

When it comes to exchanging Canadian dollars for Mexican pesos (MXN), finding the best rate can be a challenge. Last year, many travelers opted to use the BMO branch ATM for foreign exchange, but the rates were not always favorable. So, what are the better options for getting the most bang for your buck?

Using ATMs in Mexico

According to the poll, the most popular option (60%) is to withdraw pesos directly from ATMs in Mexico. This method can be convenient, but it's important to be aware of potential fees from both your home bank and the Mexican ATM. Additionally, the exchange rates at ATMs may not be as competitive as other methods.

Local Banks in Calgary

Only 10% of respondents prefer exchanging currencies at local banks in Calgary. While banks offer a secure and familiar option, their exchange rates are often less favorable due to higher operating costs and service fees.

CIBC Air Canada Prepaid Card

A suggested alternative (4%) is the CIBC Air Canada Prepaid Card, which can be loaded with Mexican pesos. This card eliminates the need for currency exchange and can be used like a regular debit card in Mexico. However, it's important to research any associated fees or restrictions.

AMA Travel Money

Another option mentioned (2%) is AMA Travel Money, which offers competitive exchange rates and services tailored to travelers.

Calforex Money Exchange

The most popular brick-and-mortar option (18%) is Calforex Money Exchange, located in Chinook Mall. Calforex is known for offering competitive exchange rates and specialized currency exchange services.

Conclusion

While using ATMs in Mexico is convenient, it may not be the most cost-effective option. Local banks in Calgary offer a familiar service, but their rates may not be as competitive. Specialized currency exchange services like Calforex or prepaid travel cards like the CIBC Air Canada Prepaid Card can provide better exchange rates and additional travel-friendly features. Ultimately, it's essential to research and compare options to find the best value for your specific needs.
