Europe or New York: Which Destination Is Best for a Multi-Gen Family Vacation?

I hope you get some recommendations. My experience is NY would be too hot! I have been to the UK, France, Japan, Bali, NZ (not Europe) and Amsterdam. They really lack infrastructure for handicapped people.

Have done a few multi gen trips with g-parents and 2 kids. Agree that you need to consider temperatures and if heat will be a barrier to enjoyment. NYC will likely be hot and has challenges, but not un-do-able. Keep in mind a lot of Europe will be very hot during summer as well. I was in Portugal and Greece for 5 weeks in May/June in 2022 and they had record breaking temps all spring. If you are thinking Europe, my first suggestion is narrow it down. Going to 'Europe' is like going to the US or Canada. Where do you want to go? What will the 3 generations want out of the trip? I have been to Europe many times with family and every trip is entirely different. My biggest word of support and advice, especially with 3 gens, is choose one place; a country or region or even some of the larger cities. Do not try to do too much as far as distance because you will spend a lot of your vacation travelling. Depending on what you want out of the trip, choose a region in Spain, Italy, France, Greece, any country really. Iceland is another option. It sounds like you and your family have some exciting conversations to have ~ enjoy

Ireland has a cool climate and is fun to visit in the summer.

Gabriel we ran out of time when in the UK. I loved Edinburgh
. Ireland is definitely a place I want to visit!
Lois
Gabriel been to Ireland and hoping to go again soon.

Vienna and Saltzburg, Austria were nice, I would go back. My grandma was 80 when we took a 3-gen vacation at the time (10+ years ago), and she kept up just fine! Sound of Music bus tour was fun, and Schonbruun Palace was interesting. The transit and food are awesome!

Europe will be very busy in summer. The entire country of France goes on vacation for the month of August. I may be exaggerating, but not by much.
Robbin
Wanda your right; all of Europe takes August off.

Multi-Generational Summer Trip: Europe or New York?
Planning a multi-generational trip with a 79-year-old mom and a 14-year-old daughter can be both exciting and challenging. While there are countless destinations to choose from, here are a few suggestions that cater to varying mobility levels and interests.
Europe: A Blend of Culture and History
Europe offers a wealth of opportunities for a memorable multi-generational trip. Consider the following destinations:
- London, England: Rich in history and culture, London offers a mix of iconic landmarks, world-class museums, and a vibrant food scene. With its extensive public transportation system, it's relatively easy to navigate, even with mobility limitations.
- Paris, France: The City of Light is a dream destination for many. From the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre to quaint cafés and charming neighborhoods, Paris offers a captivating blend of art, architecture, and gastronomy.
- Rome, Italy: Immerse yourself in the ancient Roman civilization by exploring iconic sites like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican City. While some areas can be challenging for mobility, there are accessible options and guided tours available.
New York City: A Melting Pot of Experiences
If you prefer to stay closer to home, New York City is a vibrant and diverse destination that offers something for every age group:
- Central Park: This iconic park provides a refreshing escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Rent bicycles or take a horse-drawn carriage ride to explore its lush landscapes and attractions.
- Museums: New York is home to world-renowned museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Modern Art, catering to diverse interests and age groups.
- Broadway Shows: Experience the magic of live theater by booking tickets for a Broadway show. Many theaters offer accessible seating and accommodations for those with mobility challenges.
Regardless of your final destination, it's important to plan ahead, research accessible accommodations and transportation options, and pace yourselves to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip for all. Don't hesitate to seek out guided tours or hire local assistance if needed.
Remember, the true essence of a multi-generational trip lies in creating cherished memories and strengthening family bonds. Embrace the adventure, be flexible, and savor every moment together.
