Yes, Khao Yai was great! I used a tour operator that also has accommodation. It's family run. Sorry I forget the name of the company, though they were in lonely planet 7 years ago. I still have one of the staff on my Facebook though so you could ask him:

If you want to do some things in Bangkok and your going on a weekend make sure to go to the weekend market, it’s massive, also grand palace but go as soon as it opens, wat arun was worth it as well.

Go to Koh Phangan for the day! You can catch a ferry from Koh Samui, then rent a scooter and explore.
Doug
If you go to market take notice of your taxi costs going and make sure they give you same price back, as they try to change a big difference outside of market. It’s a great place to bargain for your items, don’t be shy do it.

Unforgettable Day Trips from Bangkok
Bangkok is a vibrant city that offers countless experiences, but sometimes you need a break from the bustling streets and crowds. Fortunately, there are several incredible destinations within easy reach of the Thai capital, perfect for day trips or overnight excursions. Here are some worthwhile options to consider during your 4-night stay in Bangkok.
Khao Yai National Park
You mentioned considering Khao Yai National Park, and it's an excellent choice. Located just a few hours northeast of Bangkok, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a nature lover's paradise. Khao Yai boasts lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, gibbons, and over 300 species of birds. A day trip here allows you to escape the city and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Thailand.
Ayutthaya Historical Park
For a glimpse into Thailand's rich history, consider a day trip to Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about an hour north of Bangkok. This ancient city was once the capital of the Siamese Kingdom and is home to numerous impressive ruins, including towering Buddha statues, intricate chedis (stupas), and crumbling temples overgrown with roots. Hire a local guide or join a tour to fully appreciate the significance of this remarkable site.
Amphawa Floating Market
If you're looking for a unique cultural experience, the Amphawa Floating Market is a must-visit. Located about an hour and a half west of Bangkok, this vibrant market is set along a network of canals, where vendors sell their wares from small boats. Explore the market, sample delicious street food, and take in the lively atmosphere. Consider visiting in the evening when the market is illuminated by lanterns, creating a truly magical ambiance.
Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai
For an overnight trip, consider visiting Kanchanaburi, a province about two hours west of Bangkok. This area is famous for its connection to World War II history, including the infamous Death Railway and the Bridge over the River Kwai. In addition to exploring the historical sites, you can enjoy scenic river cruises, visit stunning waterfalls, and even stay in floating raft houses on the river.
Tour Operators and Itineraries
To make the most of your time and ensure a hassle-free experience, consider booking a tour with a reputable local operator. Companies like Exotissimo, Insider Travels, and TourRadar offer a variety of day trips and multi-day excursions from Bangkok, including transportation, knowledgeable guides, and often meals and accommodation. Browse their itineraries and read reviews to find the perfect fit for your interests and budget.
Whichever destinations you choose, these day trips and overnight excursions from Bangkok are sure to enhance your experience in Thailand, allowing you to discover the country's natural beauty, rich culture, and fascinating history.

Hello all!
We are travelling to Thailand/Japan at the beginning of July. We are planning to be in Bangkok for about 4 nights and want to make the most of the time! We will be heading South to Koh Samui for some island time too.
What are some worthwhile day or overnight trips around Bangkok?? I was looking at Khao Yai National Park as an option, but wasn’t 100% sure about it. Looking for tour operator or itinerary suggestions.
Thanks for the help!
