Question:

Jenn
We went with celebrity it was fantastic!!
Tracey
Jenn we're booked for June 19, can't wait!
Jenn
Tracey awesome!! You will love it. It was so much fun!
Cherry
Princess Cruisses!!!!
Sylvia
Princess and Celebrity are both good.
Samira
On it!! Thank you!!
Sandy
I love Celebrity. Beautiful ships, great food and now beverage packages, gratuities and wifi are included. We are leaving this Sunday on Celebrity Eclipse out of Vancouver, round trip
Tracey
Look for a round trip sailing, otherwise you have to fly back from somewhere in Alaska. We have a round trip booked June 19th on Celebrity
Samira
Tracey Oh perfect! Is 7 days enough? There are so many packages and it’s confusing me again. Can you please share your itinerary via DM?
Judy
Samira It’s “enough” but if you can, try a back-to-back. We are leaving Monday from Vancouver to Seward and return to YVR from there.
Tracey
Samira sent you a dm. This is my first trip to Alaska so I'm not sure that 7 days is long enough, but I do know that it can get a bit tiresome on the cruise after the 5th day of eating multiple times a day
Jenn
7 days is enough! When I went we did the Hubbard glacier cruise which had stops in Juneau Ketchikan and icy strait and a sailing day to the glacier!
Samira
Jenn thank you! That gives me a head start!
Jenn
Samira your welcome!!
we left from Vancouver as well!
Erica
Celebrity all the way.
Corrie
We've done Holland America twice and loved it! Make sure whatever ship you choose that it goes into Glacier Bay. That's a must see!
Danielle
Corrie absolutely agree with Glacier Bay being a must-see!
Amee
Corrie , which ship? We are going July 6 with Zuiderdam. My first time with Holland America.
Corrie
Amee zuiderdam was our first ship and we loved it! We went on the volendam for the 2nd cruise and it was a bit smaller boat but still loved it.
Amee
Thanks Corrie. We usually cruise with Princess but they don't have a Vancouver return in July.
Joyce
We cruised North to Anchorage on Princess but their ships do not have the Azipod which is a kind of side thruster that allows more ship maneuverability. They canceled our stop in Juneau due to rough water even though other cruise lines were able to dock there that day.
We booked our own train from Anchorage stopping over night at Talkeetna. That is the tiny town which inspired TV series "Northern Exposure". We stayed at the "Roadhouse" famous for good luck for teams climbing the Denali Mountain. Famous cinnamon buns!
The Roadhouse people picked us up and returned us to the train station.
Next am we had arrange the train up to Fairbanks and joined the Holland America land sea tour. All your hotels trains and buses are arranged for you starting at Fairbanks.
It includes an amazing stop at Denali where you can do a tour deep into the park view the snow capped mountain and see grizley bears.
Part of the return trip was train part was bus. They deliver right onto your new ship to return to Vancouver. It was cheaper than doing it on our own.
Overall taking 2 different cruise lines worked out well. It gave us different menus and entertainment plus a visit to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau on the way home. Spring for the balcony as the views are fabulous and you have your own fresh air if there is an outbreak of any kind.
Liz
Celebrity.
Love how they treat you.All inclusive.
Liz
Vancouver is a beautiful city.
Make sure you factor in a few days before or after your cruise.
Samira
Liz Indeed it’s beautiful! I live in Vancouver!
Jeanne
We are currently booked on Royal Caribbean Sept 18 for 7 days. Cant wait!!
Samira
Jeanne exciting!! I’m looking at September month too! The comments on this post is making it all worth it!!
Jeanne
Samira Sept is tail end of the season so expect to be colder/wetter/foggier but much quieter. Us Vancouverites are a hearty bunch lol
Jeanne
Samira if you are a Costco member, check prices on there too. We have found cruises cheaper by $100s rather than booking direct
Lynn
If you can afford it try and get a balcony! We did a cruise to Alaska and it was our first with a balcony! Enjoy!
Heather
The longer in the season you go, the daylight hours are diminished. I preferMay June. Less chance of fog and it is light until 10:30 at least at night. Holland or Princess. The ships have just started doing round trips out of Vancouver once again. They are only half full at this point.
Samira
Heather that’s a pointer! Will keep in mind!!
Judy
We are leaving Monday on a back-to-back on Norwegian Jewel. We live downtown Vancouver so we’ll walk to the port. It will be our sixth trip there. Much prefer NCL to Holland America. Their ships seem tired and the passengers are generally senior citizens.
Lyn
Judy love NCL, my friends and I did a round trip from Vancouver in May 2015 (I live here, they flew in from Toronto). It was fabulous!
Margo
Have done this cruise twice, and the one where you fly to anchoarge and cruise back to vancouver. Depending on what you like , depends on the cruise line. I really liked the Celebrity Cruise we did, it was very nice. I also cruise Royal Caribbean a fair bit and really like the entertainment they offer. When we sailed with Celebrity they had BC resident rates that were a very good deal, I know some cruise line will offer those. Be sure to check before booking . Have a great trip
San
I’ve been on several cruise lines and it really depends on your personal preference. Disney cruise lines are the most fun even for adults. I personally prefer Princess for their self laundry but it doesn’t matter much for a week long trip. Some people choose their cruises according to budget. Remember to factor in the ship when doing so, it’s not the the cruise line you need to look into, the ship itself is more important. The age and capacity of the ship is a huge factor for some people.
Jayne
They are all good
Sue
We went in May many years ago and it was amazing. Colder this year though
Kris
I have cruised Holland America 6 times and loved it. I've also cruised to Alaska round trip from Vancouver-great trip!
Maria
Have done Holland America a handful of times- older crowd. Disney Wonder was awesome but no casino on board. Celebrity was fun. Mixed ages and lively compared to Holland America. All have great cuisine at all restaurants and impeccable service all around. We don’t stick to one line. Whichever happens to be on sale is the way we go.
Cheryl
I’ve been to Alaska 5 times with Princess. Round trip from Vancouver is definitely the itinerary I like the most, I have it booked for 2023. Do not miss the White Pass train round trip from Skagway for the history. It travels the route of the miners to the Yukon and is fabulous! I can’t believe what these men went through to get to the Yukon Gold Rush! Glacier Bay is a must see on your trip as well. It’s awe inspiring. Obvious I’m hooked on Alaska and I firmly believe a round trip from Vancouver to Alaska on Princess is one of the best cruises you can take, especially for newer cruisers. May and June are best and for sure, book a balcony to take advantage of Glacier Bay. Weather on these cruises is always unpredictable. I’ve had wonderful warm days in May and also rainy ones.
Judy
Cheryl the train isn’t running this year as it crosses the border and with the arrivecan app required etc, they’re not doing it.
Cheryl
Judy The summit excursion is back in service for 2022. This is from the White Pass website “The White Pass Summit Excursion will resume for the 2022 operating season.” In fact we have never even had to take a passport. It’s not required for this trip since the train does not stop or let any passengers off on the US (edit…should say Canadian)side of the border. There are other trains that travel further and may not be available but the summit round trip from Skagway is available. Since a passport isn’t needed I don’t think ArriveCAN is required for this particular excursion. Princess acquired this railway a few years ago and are offering this excursion for 2022.
Judy
I’m on a NCL FB page and many on there say their excursions have been cancelled so they’re scrambling to get private tours. Maybe it’s changed in the last couple of weeks.
Sharon
Judy we just got back from an Alaskan cruise today and the train is back up and running as we were on it. I think the issue is the excursions where you take the train one way and a bus the other way. That trip isn't being offered this year I believe because of the border issues.
Jane
Celebrity were great when we did that cruise.
Rebecca
Holland America with my Mom was great! Loved the spa. The balcony is worth the money!
Melanie
YES to this ! I also did a Holland America cruise with my mom and it was amazing ! B
Melanie
balcony was so worth it for viewing the calving glacier so you’re not fighting for a view on the decks. We enjoyed a glass of wine out there cruising out under the lions gate bridge and enjoyed the sights of the inside passage on the way home !
Amee
Rebecca , which ship? We're going in July with Zuiderdam. My first time with HA.
Rebecca
Amee Niuew Amsterdam
Rita
Holland America was a great experience
Lucy
We have done it twice both times with NCL. Balcony is the best if you can. Once in June and once in August.
Janet
We went Alaska Russia Japan with Norwegian fabulous trip… balcony a must…didn’t want to sleep and woke early as so much to see….take binoculars and a good Zoom camera!
Geoff
My dad is a huge fan of Holland America.
Linda
Holland America for us! The best people and food!!
Belle

Lorna
We have cruised Alaska with Celebrity, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Princess. They are all excellent. Holland America tends to be a bit of an older crowd.

Call a travel agent. Not only will they make sure you are on the right ship for your personality but will advise you of promotions. They will be a wealth of information for you. Talk to an expert. Often larger companies have “group” rates that are not available to the public. Example expedia Cruises.

Lynne
Janet love vacations to go. Booked over 60 cruises with them
Janet
Lynne I like their site
Lynne
Janet me too . so easy to use. just wish it showed the taxes as well
Janet
Lynne agree totally
Lynne
if you dont have a regular at vactogo. may I suggest Rod Munoz. ext 7278. he is great. has booked at least 30 cruises for me. if you do tell him lynne sent you
Anand
Yes we are going to do this cruise later this year after our cruise to Israel
this year
Susan
They are all good. It depends on your budget and your interests. They all seem to always have sales on. We have only traveled to Alaska twice and they were on Celebrity. We have cruised to other places with Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland, and Princess.
Barbara
We like to cruise Princess because they have sliding balcony doors rather than doors that open out. We like this because it gives more room to move around on the balcony without moving furniture around to accommodate doors. Also for Alaska, I might recommend a balcony that has a ceiling just in case it rains or weather isn’t great. We stayed in D711 on Coral and it was perfect !!!

Celebrity!!!! Top notch!
Joanne
Check out the cruise line fares from Seattle- much cheaper- like 1/2!
Lynne
Joanne Vancouver is cheap too and a better cruise. Also so much easier
Joanne
Lynne I guess you are right - I only looked at NCL because I have a credit to use up
Kari
My suggestion is either Celebrity or Holland America. But, as others have posted, HA tends to be a little on the older side. The reason I suggest them is on my cruise with HA they had a park ranger come on board as we were cruising through Glacier Bay National Park and spoke about the area for several hours. It was like a live version of National Geographic. If you like that kind of thing. I would also note that in September, the weather can change greatly and coming around the tip of Vancouver Island can be rough water. My September Alaska cruise caused a couple of days to have a ship almost to ourselves as most of the people were in their cabins with sea sickness.
Tina
When u go to watch the glacier calving. Go to one of the lower decks. 90% of the boat goes up to the top deck. That way no crowds and you get a private show. Totally worth it imo.
Maureen
Holland america is definitely for older folks. Entertainment is low but the food is good. I was bored completely for the social aspect. Old folks tend to go to bed early so bars shut down early or there is precious little to do. And i was even on carnival! I took holland america to the caribbean and really disliked it.
Ann
I loved every minute of Holland America and I’m not even a fan of cruises.
Lynne
I prefer royal but holland America is awesome. Vancouver return is the best route
Lynne
The glacier in Juneau is cool to see. Can take a bus cheap
Kimberle
I'm going celebrity in Aug there awesome
Karen
Someone already mentioned Vacations to go and I agree that they are a good resource to use. I would go round trip out of Vancouver. Lots of cheap options now . Never seen Alaska cruises this cheap so a good time to go . You need a negative Covid test within two days of leaving and have to be double vaxed to get on the ship.
Lynne
Karen we sail on sunday fro $279 plus taxes for an inside cabin. pretty cheap. in july still under $500
Liz
Lynne on what line plse...fab price!
Lynne
Liz royal caribbean. booked with vacationstogo. Holland america is going for 319 US plus taxes from Vancouver in june
Liz
Lynne thk u...great info..
Lorraine
There seems to be a lot of really good deals right now for cruising from Vancouver to Alaska return, both on Holland America and Princess in September, but you need to book now.
Kate
Lorraine yes, agree. Holland America just had a great deal for Canadians which included the drinks, internet and gratuities but it ended yesterday. Keep an eye out as they seem to have 3 days sales every week or two. Sang them when they come up.
Tim
I will be on a cruise to Alaska , Aug 14th.
Royal Caribbean, Serenade of the Seas.... cost us $700CDN pp
Lynne
Tim I LOVE Serenade. Was my first royal ship. that ship has great prices all summer. it is great for alaska as it has a solarium , so no matter what the weather you can go for a swim
Lynne
Tim who did you book it with? I am looking for another one this summer. Cheaper to leave my timeshare in the rental pool , take the money it earns, and go on a cruise. I end up ahead with the low rates on ship and the high rates at beach resorts in Canada.
Tim
Lynne I booked through RCCL.... but I booked it on Black Friday.
Eve
Recommend Holland America or Princess. Did not like Carnival or Norwegian. Take a cruise that actually goes all the way to Alaska and then fly home or Visa versa.
Terry
Evelyn Kansy agree !
Lynne
Evelyn Kansy I did alaska with carnival twice. It was excellent. More action than Holland but not the party crowd you get in the caribbean
Lynne
Evelyn Kansy I understand but I love the ease of on and off in Vancouver.

We cruised to Alaska with Celebrity. Found everything very nice, spa, pools, nightly entertainment, comedians, dancing etc.
Cameron
I've been on most and they are all good. That's been in the past 15 years. Things might be different depending on your expectations, but each port and each ship were pretty much good enough to meet my expectation. Choose any ship but PRICE and discount is my personal deal breaker. Who can beat a great price as food, cabin size, and activities don't change that much that those things matter in decision making. That's just me.
Jade
Holland America, Celebrity, Princess are all pretty good. We just pick whichever has a good deal going on. They will all be a little different in entertainment and food, probably Holland and Celebrity has a bit better food than Princess but they have all been pretty fun.
Melissa
Just saw this not too long ago. Sent it to my parents
Gina
Melissa where was this post from? Thanks!
Mardeann
Rob Stover care to weigh in?
Michelle
Princess, Holland America or Celebrity. Try to book one that goes into Glacier Bay.
Eileen
We just finished a Princess return for 12 days….phenomenal
make sure to check the itinerary before booking.
Cedar
Right now all tips and drink package included with trips with Celebrity. They're a great line!!
Sometimes the price you see, isn't actually the price once all tips and gratuities are added on. So I always like to have those included or at least paid for before you go on the cruise
Joanne
Cedar I agree Celebrity is the cruise line I would go with as well. Their activities on board, food and service is impeccable!

If your doing a return trip ie up and back in 7 days or so then do the one to Hubbard Glacier instead of the one to Tracey Arm.
Eve
Princess are a good cruise line to go with, going with them in September from Vancouver to Alaska round trip.
Pats
Ive never considered a cruise because it looks so jammed packed with people. I would like a cruise to Alaska but again I don’t want thousands of people on the ship with me. Are they all like that?
Judy
Pats depends on the ship size. We take smaller ships with about 2000 passengers. It really isn’t busier than a hotel, resort. Las Vegas is way worse.
Pats
Judy Good to know. Which ship line do you recommend?
Joni
Love Holland America.
Maureen
Holland America...
Pats
Which cruise line is best for 70 year old couple who loves class and jazz and awesome food with no crowds and no loud music etc.
Samira
Pats holland America seems to be in vote for elderly people.

I agree. We did that one also.

My husband and I are thinking of a cruise trip from Vancouver to Alaska in Aug of September 2022. (Round-trip)
Any recommendations/ suggestions on which Cruise-lines are good as per your experience.
Appreciate any inputs.
