We flew JAL to Bangkok this year and it was nice. It felt like I had more room (although the flight was not full), food was good, nice service. I would recommend it over AC.

Flew with both to Japan several times and both were good.

JAL hands down. In economy the seating is 2-4-2 on their Dreamliner instead of 3-3-3 on AC. Way more elbow room.

Thanks all! Great to hear from folks who have experience with these flights.

Choosing the Best Airline for Cherry Blossom Season in Japan
Japan's cherry blossom season is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking natural events in the world. The delicate pink petals carpeting the streets and parks create a surreal and enchanting atmosphere that draws visitors from all over the globe. If you're planning a trip to Japan in spring 2023 to witness this magical phenomenon, choosing the right airline can make a significant difference in your overall travel experience.
Air Canada (AC)
Air Canada is a popular choice for travelers from North America heading to Japan. They offer direct flights from major Canadian cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal to Tokyo's Narita Airport or Haneda Airport. These direct flights can be a convenient option if you're looking to minimize layovers and travel time.
One advantage of flying with Air Canada is their membership in the Star Alliance, which provides access to a vast network of partner airlines and frequent flyer benefits. Additionally, Air Canada is known for their excellent in-flight entertainment systems and diverse meal options, including special meals catering to various dietary requirements.
Japan Airlines (JAL)
Japan Airlines (JAL) is the flag carrier of Japan and a highly respected airline known for its exceptional service and punctuality. JAL operates direct flights from several major cities in North America, including New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, to Tokyo's Narita Airport and other Japanese destinations.
Choosing JAL can be an excellent option if you prefer a more immersive Japanese experience from the moment you board the aircraft. JAL's in-flight services and amenities are designed to provide a taste of Japanese hospitality and culture. Their in-flight meals are carefully crafted to offer a delightful culinary experience, and their entertainment options often include a diverse selection of Japanese movies and TV shows.
Considerations for Your Flight
When choosing between Air Canada and Japan Airlines, it's important to consider your preferred layover location and duration. While both airlines offer direct flights from major North American cities, some routes may require a layover. If you prefer a single layover, you may want to explore options that minimize the number of connections and the overall travel time.
Additionally, it's crucial to consider your travel dates and book well in advance to secure the best fares and availability. Cherry blossom season in Japan is a popular time for travel, and flights can fill up quickly. Booking early can also provide more flexibility in choosing your preferred flight times and routes.
Ultimately, the choice between Air Canada and Japan Airlines will depend on your personal preferences, budget, and travel requirements. Both airlines offer excellent service and amenities, and either option can provide a comfortable and convenient journey to Japan during the stunning cherry blossom season.

We're looking at heading to Japan in spring 2023 for cherry blossom season. Can anyone recommend which airline to use? Currently exploring AC and JAL options. We'd prefer only one layover if possible. Thanks!
