My husband and I are heading to Italy for 15 days in October. Looking for recommendations on must see places and itineraries. Planning on getting around by train.

What parts of Italy will you be visiting?

Lance mostly staying in the north.

We were in Northern Italy just a few months ago. Flew into Milan and toured around (Duomo is a must see as well as Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping). We then took the train to Cinque Terre (we stayed in Riomaggiore but i recommend Monterosso if you want more). We then went to Lucca (think Florence without the crowds) and stayed in the walled city. After a few days in Tuscany at our time share we caught the train from Florence to Lake Como and stayed in Bellagio. Back to Milan to fly home.
It was an amazing trip.

Lance we are also landing in milan but going to lake como, verona, and venice. do you think that we could buy the train tickets on the day or should we book in advance?

Dorna same day purchase is fine since you’re outside of high season.

Verona, Rome, and any small northern communities are wonderful!

Forget Rome that's way overrated; usually what every American and Canadian tourists tend to see..borrring... Be adventurous and see temple of Apollo instead, rent a motorcycle or scooter and go across beautiful Amalfi coast, Positano, Sicily, Sorento, Taromina, Florence- trust me you won't be disappointed.

Just came back from there! Researched and saw bologna recommended I loved it way more than Florence ..Bologna definitely worth stopping for the food and the people it is so amazing try this place if yiy do go and stay in old town
Trattoria Pizzeria Belle Arti amzing food it is just down road from the movie theatre. We stayed in a Airbnb she has several rooms with aircon Make sure to stay in the older part https://abnb.me/mw09IyuRuZ Cinque de terre was my favourite spot we stayed in vernazza which in my opinion one of the best as it’s smaller, if you go there rent a boat from the Miguel best part of our whole trip ! Take a train there as we did drive and it was the craziest road and you have to park it above and pay for parking as there are no cars allowed so if we knew we would of took the train. Venice was worth seeing if you haven’t gone there as well.
A tip for coffee stand at the counter and drink there you will pay up to four Euros sitting down and 1,25 standing at counter and make sure you tell them you want at counter Love Italy want to go back !

Florence, Cinque Terre and Pompeii were some of the highlights of our trip.

We stayed in Naples. Explored Amalfi Coast, Pompei And Royal palace of Caserta.

Forget Venice, it was gross! Stick to the smaller not as popular places!

Sarah Proffitt Venice was awesome gotta stay 2 days to appreciate though ... and stay away from touristy traps go to the behind alleys ...Away from the main area and you’ll find the coolest little pubs and bars and way better food ..also realize that you can get lost in there too but that’s half the fun!

Chris, we were there for 4 days. It was dirty, filled with garbage, and the locals were awful. We stayed away from the main area. Just not my thing I guess

I loved Venice- nothing else quite like it

Try this place in Florence. So good! There’s another restaurant that I can’t remember but that was good as well. Loved Ischia if you happen to island hop

We are thinking this as an itinerary but it might be too much... appreciate any thoughts or input. We have 15 nights in Italy
- 2 nights Venice
- 2 nights Bergamo
- 2 nights Vernazza (Cinque Terre)
- 2 nights Florence
- 1 night Sienna
- 3 nights Naples
- 3 nights Rome

We're doing something similar but opposite. We're doing:
3 nights Rome
3 nights Sorrento
3 nights Florence
2 nights Monterosso (Cinque Terre)
2 nights Venice
It does seem too much but I think it's doable.
