take a power cord as there is only a few plug ins in your room. If you want to charge phones/iPads and such.

Don’t cheap out on your room - always get a balcony!
Choose the ship most tailored to your interests.
Take some gravol just in case! We had 20 foot swells the first night and got a bit nauseous every though we were both raised on boats.
Start with a shorter cruise length just to make sure you like it. Better to leave wanting to go back, than feel trapped on a ship for too long!

I’m fond of Princess cruises. Depending on the time of year Caribbean can be a great first cruise. Check out the hints on various forums, Pinterest etc - there are some great tips, like bringing a power bar and magnetic things etc. Take advantage of all the activities and take some time to just watch the sea go by from the deck.

CA we took a power bar and post it notes to leave each other ones on our where abouts. Lol it took us over an hour once to find each other lol

There are certain cruises you want a balcony for. And some you just need a window. I need light so I have to have a window. Also, there are alot of people on board, so if you don't feel peopley, go to the ships library...quite quiet
. Bring all sorts of different types of motion sickness deterrents. Some people get really sick. Also...always plan your flight to arrive the day before the cruise leaves!

Cruising out of Galveston Texas makes flights from Calgary for cheaper than Florida. We went last January and our flights for 4 were $1200. We booked around this time of year. Great cost of flights and cruise. If you end up doing that I can give you tips on getting to and from Port.

Norwegian is great if you are looking for something more casual....in particular, that men don't need shirt, tie & jacket for dinner....also, you don't have an exact set time for dinner (unless you want to(.

Remember Feb is cold. We sailed out of NJ one time and it was 'winter outside/on deck' for 1.5 days....before we hit nice weather....

If you go with Princess they have scheduled dinners or open dinners. Choose a scheduled sitting or you'll waste lots of time waiting in line every day for dinner.

I would argue that an unscheduled searing gives much more flexibility about “who” you eat with and when you eat depending on how you feel that day (did I just have a snack an hour ago by the pool? Am I starving? Do I want an afternoon nap?). The wait time can vary for both. They still have to seat people.
It’s Like going out for supper on a Saturday night. If you go at the “standard” times for supper, opening or6pm, you are going to line up. Any time after 75-90 minutes after opening (similar to second seating), the line is minimal. For early seating, you can arrive 10-15 minutes before opening and get in right away.

I have been on 10 cruises and never got sick I've done most of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean and Alaska I loved real Caribbean Princess Carnival and celebrity. I have never had an extension cord taken away from me as I need it for my medical equipment

We did our first cruise with Royal Caribbean (and probably only one - its not our cup of tea), and our friend recommended purchasing the drink package before we went. Good thing, because it's not all inclusive on all cruises, and the average drink was $14/drink. We lucked out and got the drink package on sale for a decent price.

I would look for cruises that leave from Galveston, Texas as it’s only a couple hour flight vs full day travel to Florida.

Get help from an experienced Cruise Travel Agent. Audrey Chan is awesome. She'll help guide you to the perfect cruise FOR YOU... all the cruise lines are decent to excellent, based on what you like to do, your age group and personal style.
Some on the post say you need a balcony, others say a window etc.. for me, I go with the cheapest room (usually an inside cabin) because I'm rarely in my room, and would rather spend the extra money doing fun things OFF the ship.
We usually choose a late dinner seating (love the formal dining rooms because of the table service), because when we are at a port, I don't want to have to rush back to the ship to eat.

Checkout Australia and New Zealand cruises. If you have budget to fly there you will not regret it. I used to work with Princess Cruises and N.Z. was one of the favorites.

Advice for Your First Cruise to the Eastern Caribbean

Congratulations on planning your first cruise adventure! The Eastern Caribbean is an excellent choice, offering a blend of stunning beaches, rich cultural experiences, and plenty of opportunities for relaxation and excitement. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your upcoming voyage:

Choose the Right Itinerary

The Eastern Caribbean is a diverse region with various island destinations to explore. Some popular ports of call include St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. Research the itineraries offered by different cruise lines and choose one that aligns with your interests and desired pace. Consider the length of the cruise, the number of sea days, and the ports of call to ensure a well-rounded experience.

Pack Wisely

Packing for a cruise can be tricky, but it's essential to strike a balance between comfort and style. Pack comfortable, breathable clothing for hot and humid weather, such as shorts, t-shirts, and lightweight dresses or shirts. Don't forget swimwear, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Also, bring a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings or air-conditioned indoor spaces. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as you'll likely be exploring various ports on foot.

Plan Shore Excursions

Shore excursions are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture and natural beauty of the Eastern Caribbean islands. Consider booking excursions through your cruise line or reputable local operators. Popular activities include snorkeling or scuba diving, beach days, historical tours, and island adventures like zip-lining or ATV tours. Book early to secure your preferred excursions, as they tend to fill up quickly.

Embrace Onboard Activities

While in port, you'll undoubtedly want to explore the islands, but don't overlook the wealth of activities and amenities available on your cruise ship. From pools and waterslides to Broadway-style shows, casinos, and gourmet dining, there's something for everyone on board. Participate in organized activities, attend informative lectures, or simply relax by the pool with a good book.

Stay Hydrated and Healthy

Cruising in the Caribbean can be hot and humid, so it's crucial to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day. Additionally, be mindful of sun exposure and apply sunscreen regularly. If you plan to participate in water activities, follow safety guidelines and consider investing in water shoes or sandals to protect your feet.

Remember, the key to a successful cruise is to relax, embrace the island vibes, and make unforgettable memories with your husband. Enjoy your first cruise experience, and don't hesitate to ask the crew members for any assistance or recommendations along the way.
