It is a bit early to swim, but will be nice and comfy in March in Okinawa.
Kyushu area is really nice to visit as long as u can drive. If not, might be hard to find transfer.

We were just in Japan in December and took a short trip to Taiwan to get some sun. It was 30 degrees when we were there. It’s a short easy flight from Tokyo or Osaka.
Kindi
I would love to try their purple sweet potatoes. Apparently Okinawa is a great place to live.

It's only low 20s in March so definitely not warm enough to swim at the beach. Nevertheless I enjoyed Okinawa. Renting a car there is a must. Lots to do.

Lots to do in Okinawa. You can snorkel in wetsuits. We also played in the water - the temperature was around 20 both in and out, so not hot beach weather but nice.
Lots of activities there.

Ishigaki Island (which is part of the Okinawa islands) would be my recommendation, plenty warm enough there to spend time at the beach. It's usually about 25 C during the day and 18-19 at night in March (in fact it is 24 C today in January). Easy (direct) flight from Tokyo or Osaka.
Rodney
Rent a car while there.

Yoron island is the jewel , never been but it’s on my list

Spring Break in Okinawa: A Paradise in the Southern Islands of Japan
Ah, Japan – a country renowned for its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and technological advancements. If you're planning a spring break getaway and craving some sun-soaked adventures, look no further than the captivating islands of Okinawa.
Why Okinawa?
Okinawa is the perfect destination for those seeking a tropical escape while immersing themselves in the unique blend of Japanese and Ryukyu Island cultures. Known for its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant coral reefs, Okinawa offers a refreshing contrast to the bustling cities of Tokyo and Kyoto.
Naha: The Vibrant Capital
Start your Okinawan adventure in Naha, the capital city. Here, you can explore the lively Kokusai Dori street, where you'll find an array of shops, restaurants, and the iconic Shuri Castle. Don't miss the opportunity to sample the local cuisine, including the famous Okinawan soba noodles and delectable Goya Champuru (a stir-fry dish with bitter melon).
Island-Hopping Adventures
Okinawa is an archipelago comprising over 160 islands, each with its own distinct charm. Consider island-hopping to experience the diversity of these tropical gems. The Kerama Islands, just a short ferry ride from Naha, boast crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Alternatively, venture to the lush and secluded Iriomote Island, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site known for its dense mangrove forests and rich biodiversity.
Beaches and Watersports
No trip to Okinawa would be complete without indulging in its world-class beaches. Spend lazy days soaking up the sun on the powdery white sands of Emerald Beach or the iconic Manzamo Cape. For the adventurous souls, engage in various watersports like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or even try your hand at surfing the Pacific swells.
Final Thoughts
Okinawa truly is a paradise in the southern islands of Japan, offering a unique blend of culture, natural beauty, and endless opportunities for adventure. Whether you seek relaxation on pristine beaches, underwater explorations, or immersive cultural experiences, Okinawa promises to deliver an unforgettable spring break getaway.
So, pack your sunscreen, grab your sense of adventure, and embark on a journey to this tropical haven – you won't be disappointed!

We are heading to Japan for spring break (yay!) and are hoping to get some sun (in addition to 3 weekends in Tokyo and a week in Kyoto/osaka), so we are looking at Okinawa. Anyone have any advice on a great place to visit in the south? Is Okinawa the best?
Thanks!
