How to Plan the Perfect Two-Week Honeymoon in Japan?

Question:
Humans say...
Jen
Nara for the deers and famous hand pounded mochi.
Chris
Jen I'll second that one plus it has beautiful temples up on the hill and great restaurants
Marji
Itsukushima Shrine at Miyajima but double check before because it’s under renovation
Rob
If you haven’t booked your flight to Okeene hour yet, and you’re flying on one of the two major Japanese airlines, you can book an explorers flight. This is ¥10,000 from Tokyo to Okinawa or Fukuoka to Okinawa. Much cheaper than paying for your flight upfront through Air Canada.
Andrew
Rob there is also flypeach to get you around. But I'll second flying with the japanese airline.

Okinawa is a great place for a honeymoon. I loved the Okinawan cultural centre (and caves next door). Near-ish to Naha. Northern Okinawa has beautiful resorts. Smaller Okinawan islands are great too. Some accessible by ferry for a day trip.
Mainland Japan will be so lovely at that time because of cherry blossom. I don't know much about Matsumoto, but the other cities you chose are great.
Andrew
Darlana if your planning to do the island hoping. Book in advance it gets sold out fast. They only run a couple a day.

Our favourite food place in Kyoto was a hole in the wall chicken/ramen place called Karako. It's just north of Gion. My favourite area was Arashiyama.
We also didn't bother with transit in Kyoto - nearly everything is accessible by bike - the only thing we did use the train for was to go to above mentioned Arashiyama.
I would 100% recommend renting any of the English audio tours when you visit a site or exhibit. A lot of the signage is in Japanese, or the english signage will have way less info than the Japanese. The audio tour sticks will usually have a lot more cool info. Nijo castle's audio tour was totally worth it. If you have a chance, sign up for the free guided tours of the Imperial palace. You have to register in advance, but it's a fascinating tour.

We did our honeymoon in Japan in March-April as well for 4 weeks trip.
-Koyasan (best kept secret) is fantastic, it’s the only Buddhist village, you can take a funicular there and sleep in a temple, assît and early ceremony, very powerful experience.
-Nikko is also great, UNESCO heritage and lots of beautiful temples and onsen.
-Nagasaki is also great historically, not just Hiroshima.
-Kyoto and Nara I wouldnt miss.

We loved Hakone as an overnight trip from Tokyo (if you take the fast train there & back!) https://lifamilytraveltips.weebly.com
Gloria
buy a Japan rail pass before you go

So much to see and do which all depends on your preferences. In Tokyo don’t miss ‘Tokyo Tower’; in Osaka don’t miss ‘Osaka Castle’ and in Kyoto don’t miss ‘The Golden Pavilion’. Travel the trains just like the locals and eat where the locals eat. You’ll not be disappointed with whatever you do. Have fun!

Crafting the Perfect Honeymoon in Japan
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Planning a honeymoon in Japan is an excellent choice for couples seeking a perfect blend of rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and culinary delights. Your proposed itinerary covers some of the most iconic destinations in the Land of the Rising Sun, but with a few tweaks, you can make the most of your two-week journey.
Tokyo: A Vibrant Introduction
Tokyo is an excellent starting point for your honeymoon adventure. This bustling metropolis offers a captivating mix of modern marvels and traditional charm. Spend at least 3-4 days exploring the city's iconic landmarks, such as the Sensoji Temple, the Imperial Palace, and the Shibuya Crossing. Indulge in the city's culinary scene by sampling world-class sushi, ramen, and quirky themed cafes.
Matsumoto: A Charming Detour
Nestled in the Japanese Alps, Matsumoto is a delightful stop en route to Kyoto. Spend a night or two in this picturesque city, famous for its historic Matsumoto Castle and traditional streetscapes. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming Nawate-dori district and savor the local cuisine, including the renowned Matsumoto soba noodles.
Kyoto: The Cultural Heart
Kyoto, the former imperial capital, is a must-visit destination on your honeymoon. Allocate at least 4-5 days to immerse yourself in its wealth of UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Golden Pavilion, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. From Kyoto, take a day trip to Osaka and explore its vibrant food scene, including the famous Dotonbori district and the mouthwatering street food.
Hiroshima: A Poignant Reminder
Hiroshima holds a solemn place in history, but it's also a city of resilience and beauty. Spend a day or two visiting the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, offering a sobering reflection on the devastating effects of war. Explore the serene Miyajima Island, home to the iconic floating Torii gate and friendly deer roaming the streets.
Fukuoka and Okinawa: Seaside Relaxation
Conclude your honeymoon with a few days in Fukuoka and Okinawa, two destinations renowned for their stunning beaches and laid-back island vibes. In Fukuoka, stroll through the historic Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and indulge in the city's culinary delights, including its famous tonkotsu ramen. Then, escape to the tropical paradise of Okinawa, where you can unwind on pristine beaches, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and immerse yourself in the unique Ryukyu culture.
Accommodations and Dining
For a truly authentic and memorable experience, consider staying in traditional ryokans (Japanese inns) or luxurious hotels with onsen (hot spring) facilities. When it comes to dining, embrace the local flavors by trying izakaya (Japanese tapas-style restaurants), Michelin-starred sushi places, and quirky themed cafes.
Remember, this is just a suggested itinerary, and you can tailor it to your preferences and interests. Japan is a land of endless wonders, and no matter where you go, you're sure to create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Happy honeymoon planning, and congratulations once again on your upcoming marriage!

Planning our honeymoon to Japan for two weeks in late March/early April. We fly into Tokyo and out of Fukuoka for a further 4days in Okinawa. Current plan is Tokyo-Matsumoto-Kyoto(visit Osaka from here) - Hiroshima-Fukuoka. Looking for recommendations on where to spend more/less time, places to visit, eat, stay, etc. Thanks!
