12 days is too long in one place. Add Seville, Cordoba, Granada.
Allison
Look into the paradors they r awesome.
Lyndsay
Agree with the above - add Seville, Cordoba, and Granada! The trains/buses in Spain are fairly easy to navigate, and Granada is my favourite place on earth.
Trish
As above way too long

Just came back from Spain.
Arriving there was quite simple, as Spain isn't currently requiring any covid tests for those double vaxxed (if you don't fly direct, the layover country might have requirements though, i.e. Portugal).
I would think coming back might be more problematic, as Canada requires a negative PCR for re-entry; if you test positive, you will need to wait 10 days and good luck rescheduling your return flight

12 days is long for just Barcelona. I strongly recommend renting a car and going up the Costa Brava. It’s stunning. Spend 5 days in Barcelona, 2-3 in Girona, stay over night in Begur and then make your way to Cadeques. Beautiful villages all the way up with lots of culture, great food and gorgeous beaches. In Barcelona, go to Bar Mut, bar canete, they are the best in Barcelona. In Girona, try Casa cocoa. It’s a lovely hotel with the best breakfast included and amazing chocolate. It’s owned by the family that owns the 3 Michelin star restaurant in town. Game of Thrones was filmed there for the first few years and the town is stunning. Begur is the Muskoka of Barcelona. Great night life, restaurants, shops, beaches and hiking. Everyone loves begur. Then meander your way through the little villages. They all have their charms. Make sure you go to Mas Pou. This place is an institution. People drive from France and Barcelona just to have dinner and then go home. Do their pan con tomate but the version that you put together yourself. Their charred snails and aioli is a must try with their boil quail egg and that’s before you even decide on your appetizer and main. Enjoy the drive to cadeques. The drive is incredible. This is the most unique medieval village ever. I will leave it at that for you to experience. There is a reason why Dali had his last home here.

I stayed in Barcelona for 3 weeks and couldn't get enough. Hehe. I went into Basque country for the food. Madrid isn't that far. I took a 3 hour train from Barcelona. Perfect airbnb in Barcelona with a back garden and deck if you're interested.

If you're the type to travel a lot and not wanna always be on the go, 12 days in Barcelona isn't enough. But that's very subjective. Airport bus from Barcelona is very cheap and fast btw.

Go to the island - Palma , Mallorca or Ibiza it is something like 6h but you won't regret it trust me

Or Valencia. 3h

Hello I was in Barcelona in December, i have a EU passport and currently if you are vaccinated you do not need to do a test prior departure but you need to register on spain gov website to indicate your intinerary and vaccination status, this will generate QR code that you need to show prior to departure (similar process as ArriveCan)

Did anyone need a covid test coming back? (Canadian) we’re they easily accessible? How soon before leaving did you get the test done?

Has anyone travelled from Spain lately? Looking to book a trip in April and wondering what and how the actual process of getting over there was.
Yes, I traveled to Spain in March 2023. The process of getting there was very easy. I flew from New York City to Madrid on a direct flight. The flight took about 7 hours. When I arrived in Madrid, I went through customs and immigration without any problems. I then took a train from Madrid to Barcelona. The train ride took about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Here are some things to keep in mind when traveling to Spain:
- You will need a passport to enter Spain.
- You will need to purchase a visa if you plan to stay in Spain for more than 90 days.
- The currency in Spain is the euro.
- The official language of Spain is Spanish.
- Spain is a member of the European Union.
Also looking for recommendations for things to do. We plan on going for 12 ish days. Is this too long to stay in Barcelona or should we add a second city? (bonus points for giving me ideas of which one)
12 days is a great amount of time to spend in Spain. You could easily spend the entire time in Barcelona, but I would recommend adding a second city to your itinerary. Here are a few ideas:
- Madrid: The capital of Spain, Madrid is a vibrant city with a rich history and culture. There are many things to see and do in Madrid, including visiting the Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, and the Retiro Park.
- Valencia: This city is located on the east coast of Spain and is known for its beautiful beaches, delicious food, and lively nightlife.
- Seville: This city is located in the south of Spain and is known for its stunning architecture, flamenco dancing, and tapas bars.
Edit : if we stay in Barcelona than we will be doing day trips out of the city.
Here are a few ideas for day trips from Barcelona:
- Montserrat: This mountain monastery is located about an hour north of Barcelona and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
- Figueres: This city is the birthplace of Salvador Dalí and is home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum.
- Girona: This medieval city is located about an hour north of Barcelona and is known for its well-preserved architecture.
