Is there a way to inquire about an Air BnB rental without booking?

Question:

Am using air bnb for the first time. I have found a possible rental but want to ask the owner a few questions. There is a 'request to book' button but that requires credit card information which I'm not ready to give. How do I send a message / indicate interest to the owner?

Click on 'Contact Host' - it should be under 'About This Listing'

Have used it a few times. Just do your homework and ask lots of questions about property. I checked one for a single bedroom and the homeowners were not the tidiest of people.

I used air bnb for my trip next year to Mexico. They are rigid. You can't have direct contact with the owner of a guest house or BnB until you book. Crazy and annoying. The information on their lists of places is so minimal that there is a need to talk to the owner. air bnb doesn't want to be left out of their commission. And you can't cancel once you have booked and paid.

Judith Brooke you are incorrect. We have used air bnb multiple times with ease. You can cancel dependant on the policy with the owners. They set out the guidelines. It is easy and flexible. I always contact the owner and ask questions. It is very easy, as Chris has stated already. I fully use air bnb and vrbo to book places no matter where we go. Of course, we can have a bad experience. If you do, email the owner on the air bnb site, so they have a record of it. Contact air bnb immediately after to ask for a refund. I have done it.

We have used air bnb four times now with no problems whatsoever! Chris is correct -- you may definitely send e-mails to the owner prior to booking. There's quite a variety of accommodation available, so study the photos and the details provided and definitely read the Reviews.

I run an airbnb, and use them myself when I travel. Believe me, there is lots of discussion with my guests from what they want for breakfast to the quality of the beds. Sometimes the website can be confusing.

How to Message an Airbnb Host Before Booking

Airbnb provides a convenient way to communicate with hosts before making a booking commitment. This allows you to ask questions, clarify details, and ensure the listing meets your needs. Here's how you can send a message to an Airbnb host without providing your credit card information:

Step 1: Find the Listing

Navigate to the Airbnb listing you're interested in and click on it to view the full details.

Step 2: Locate the "Contact Host" Button

On the listing page, scroll down until you find the "Contact Host" button, usually located near the listing description or host profile section.

Step 3: Click "Contact Host"

Click the "Contact Host" button to open the messaging interface.

Step 4: Write Your Message

In the messaging window, you can type your questions, concerns, or any additional information you'd like to share with the host. This is your opportunity to inquire about the property, amenities, rules, or any other details before committing to a booking.

Step 5: Send the Message

Once you've composed your message, click the "Send" button to send it to the host. The host will receive your message and can respond directly through the Airbnb messaging system.

By following these steps, you can engage in a conversation with the host without providing your credit card details. This allows you to gather all the information you need before deciding to proceed with the booking.

Keep in mind that hosts may take some time to respond, as they manage multiple inquiries and bookings. Be patient and respectful in your communication, and don't hesitate to follow up politely if you haven't received a response within a reasonable timeframe.

Messaging the host before booking is a great way to ensure a smooth and informed experience when using Airbnb for the first time.
