I love the single young woman part. At 52, I feel the same way and following this because it is time to crush the bucket list.
Linda
I drove across Canada (from Vancouver, BC to Percé, QC) by myself last summer, staying in small family motels and some fun airbnb places instead of chain motels. Met some great people and ate/drank local as much as possible.
Would be going to GB, France, and Spain this year if I wasn't having spinal fusion surgery next week -- there's always next year!
Jacobie
I did a gap adventure tour to Costa Rica. It was amazing! All ages. Small groups. Only one couple on our tour.
Maryse
I 2nd that. I went to Asia on a gadventure tour. We were the only couple, the rest were mostly travelling on their own. All small groups, up to 16.
Agatha
I'm biased, because my family is Polish, but Eastern Europe is spectacular. Poland is a beautiful country with a tremendous amount of history, and the Czech Republic, particularly Prague, has a burgeoning food and beer scene (the Czechs drink the most beer in the world, per capita). I've also heard wonderful things about Romania, Hungary, Estonia, and the via ferratas in Slovenia. And, most of those parts of the world are still relatively cheap to visit.
Jolene
Malaysia & Vietnam wonderful & easy to navigate as a single person. I have extensively travelled south east Asia & they were my favourites for safety & hospitality.
Monique
Did a yoga retreat in Cambodia and it was amazing

I was solo in Mexico City earlier this year and loved it. Short flight, SO much to do (more museums than London!) and felt completely safe.
Shelley
Www.gadventures.com - I’ve travelled with them as a single many times. Usually a good mix of travellers.

2 votes for G. Lots of destination options, amazing staff, and adventure travellers. Tons of fun with the added camaraderie of a small group and guide with local knowledge.

Check out Adventure Canada...some of their adventure cruises forgive the single supplement and I found a lot of people travelling solo with them the last couple of summers. Their Arctic excursions are amazing.
Lily
I'm single and I just go everywhere by myself, wherever I feel like going. I've never had any issues. What kind of places do you have in mind? I've been to about 45 countries and about 80% of my travels have been by myself. I prefer going alone most of the time
Monique
Agree. Also much cheaper then going on organized excursions with 100 people. Not sure I could do that
Marcy
Well I like beaches, hot weather, beautiful scenery, diving, snorkeling, I haven't experienced much else.
Lily
Marcy McIlwraith how about Central America? Or south of Spain?
Monique
Marcy McIlwraith or Thailand! The beaches are incredible!
Carolyn
Denmark is a wonderful place to visit. The people are so friendly and helpful
Colleen
If you are not into 5 star travel, check out GAdventures or Intrepid. They do not have single supplements - unless you want your own room - and often have plenty of singles on each tour.
Dep
Some Beach Somewhere is great...they do a mystery trip every November...one week with a beach...lots in your age group and single go ...Deb @ 403 933 7956

UK is very easy. France, Spain or Italy too. Japan is incredibly safe and you don’t need to know Japanese in order to get around.

Any where in SE Asia... Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar... all safe, cheap an amazing culture , food and people.

Thank you everyone! Your ideas are incredible. Would love to go to Thailand but I would be very nervous! I have never travelled outside north America. I know it's very sad!
Caroline
there is always a first time. Pick a safe country, learn how to be street smart (no flashy jewellry, determined gait, dress like the locals, be v wary after dark....), or go with a small tour group....ENJOY!! The world is a wonderful place - and I have travelled in many styles through much of it!
Marcy
Caroline like Thailand?
Caroline
Marcy McIlwraith that would not be my first choice for you for out of NA, although I LOVE Thailand and have been there three times myself - unless you hook up with a group. I'd go for somewhere in the UK/Europe - lots of adventure there.
Todd
I first went when there was a military coupe. It was amazing to travel around by myself, meeting so many other tourists from all over the world. My brother now lives in Thailand and I have been there 3 times.
Marcy
Todd you think it would be a good trip for me alone. First time out of North America?
Todd
Marcy McIlwraith it would be amazing. I fell in love with Thailand. Looking at possibly going again around Dec/Jan. PM me if you want to talk about it.
Marcy
Todd but you are male.
Todd
Marcy McIlwraith I have a friend that is female that I worked with and she has been there a few times by herself. I can get her contact info for you.
Marcy
Todd ok sure... How long should I be there for?
Todd
Marcy McIlwraith I always did about 27 days. If I could do more I would.
Todd
Marcy McIlwraith sent you a message on messenger.
Marcy
Todd nothing against meeting women etc, I think they are amazing but single males would be great too! Any special ideas there?
Todd
Marcy McIlwraith for single males do a group tour. I have never done a group tour. I like the freedom to come & go as I please. But for single males, probably a Europe destination. I rented a car and was in Germany, Austria & Italy.
Todd
Nippon Travel had a seat sale for Asia.

Depending on your budget you can try Intrepid- they have a more high end class of travel

I'd recommend Egypt with a tour - I went there solo Dec 2017 and had a fantastic time and met some life long friends.
Also recommend Cuba - I did Havana and Holguin.

A friend is trying to convince me to go on a cruise with NCL. They have a deck of inside studio rooms for single travellers and a singles lounge. I did an Alaskan cruise with Holland America and only 2 of us showed up at the singles events so would like to try the NCL cruise.
Wends
And Marcy McIlwraith, if you're new at overseas travel do not start with Latin America, or Asia - it's too much to handle on your own + start somewhere you can speak the language and grow from there
Edited to add - it's when thing go badly or there are issues (ie. Missed connections, lost bags, illness, miscommunication with tour) while you are abroad that language becomes a problem. Don't underestimate this aspect if this is your first time abroad.
Marcy
Ok... Points taken. Thank you.

safe travels!
Marcy
Wendy Tso thank you.

I travelled to Thailand on my own and loved it. Join a tour group for a short tour if you want to ease into solo travelling but then spend the rest of your trip touring the rest of the country. The islands are glorious, food is spectacular and I never found not knowing how to speak the language an issue.
Dave
People that get in trouble tend to behave badly, do drugs, hookers, crime... Avoid Muslim countries and NoKo. Taiwan is ok provided you avoid criminality.
Most Canadians getting in trouble come from themselves, behaving badly.
Susan
Croatia walking/hiking tour with Adventures-Abroad. Small groups and everything is well organized. Fabulous scenery, great food.
Rosa
You need to find a single lady to travel with.
Christi
I agree- if you are looking for a second on your trip, throw it out there then meet for coffee and see if you may be compatible travel mates. Otherwise- just go forbit’
Kenna
Traveling on your owncanbe very rewarding. You Candice exactly what you want, no compromises with someine else's wishes.
You also learn a lot about yourself.
Dave
Do not let being single hold you back. Either do solo or find another solo traveler and travel. Me, been to central America Costa Rica, Panama, 4 cities in Mexico as solo in the last few years. When younger did UK and north west Europe working and solo. Thinking of DR next.
Shop around, some do not charge solo with high solo supplements while other charge double. If my vision was better, would do SE Asia. Love the tropics, beach....
If you are solo woman, avoid Muslim countries unless on close knit tours.
Wends
Dave I didn't have an issue in the Middle East or Africa - dressed appropriately and just kept my head down and didnt make any unnecessary eye contact. There were cat calls and comments but just gotta deal with it.
Brenda
I did a cruise by myself and had the best time ever. They put me at a table with other singles so was great
Christin
Iceland!! So incredibly safe there! A beautiful country. Not sure of the singles scene but they say it’s one of the safest for single lady travellers. For first time out of NA it’s great because the all speak English and take credit card for everything. The first time we stayed in a hotel, but the second time we just rented a car and stayed at guesthouses around the island. Driving is easy as there is no traffic and one main road that goes around the island!
Lisa

I'm a 54 year old single woman and I went to Greece - Athens, Crete, Santorini and Naxos on my own this past Febriray. It was fabulous and easy.
Marcy
That sounds amazing. How much time would I need? Is it expensive?

I travelled solo in West Africa over a decade ago and it was amazing! PM me if you need any advice.
Michelle
Ev - ohhhh I am going though west Africa this November for five months!
Ev
Michelle awesome! What countries are you going to? I've done Ghana, Burkina Faso and Mali. Sadly both Burkina and Mali aren't safe for tourists currently.
Michelle
Ev 22 countries, five months all overland in a truck.!! Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
Ev
Wow! Botswana is on my bucket list for sure and I've heard amazing things about Namibia and South Africa. I'm surprised the trip didn't hit up Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda. Sounds like you're definitely off the beaten track!
Michelle
Ev it does hit those others - that is the TEN month long trip - Africa encompassed. I have been to Tanzania and Kenya - loved them. Yes this is by far the most off the beaten path trip of my life - I will be so close to 100 countries with this one though!
Kathleen
Michelle are you travelling with a tour company.? I would love to know more about the 10 month overland trip.
Michelle
Kathleen it is an overland tour company called Madventure from London. I just did a seven month trip from England to Australia through 32 countries. Was amazing and hard. Here is the Africa link! https://madventure.co.uk/africa-encompassed-overland-tour/
Wends
Michelle - do tell about your overland experience. We are planning a Bhutan Nepal Tibet one ATM but doing it on our own. On the tours, do you get sufficient time to explore the places or is it just go go go?
Michelle
Wendy Tso well this trip was go go go! We went to Nepal and Tibet with my group - because we went overland we went to very remote, rural places which was great! Also saw the Tibet Mount Everest. We saw so much of Nepal too but we did 60,000 kilometres in seven months so on the move a lot! Sometimes I wish we had more time in a place but I can always go back- it was like a sampler hahaha
Wends
Cool! I'm super impressed that you've done so many of these
keep us updated on your travels. I don't usually do tours for the go go go reason but in some places it's safer than going it alone.
Michelle
Some of those countries would just be hard on your own. Bhutan is high on my list now but I think you need a guide there. We needed a guide in Tibet and the part of china we were in- no tourists! I could talk travel all day! lol
Wends
Michelle fortunately my boyfriend's family has people there so we are relatively in good hands.
Nora
Hi Marcy McIlwraith , There are lots of great ideas in this conversation. I am an avid solo traveller and have been to many places on my own.
The most important question is what do you want to experience when you travel, it sounded like adventure and meeting people along the way. Is that correct?
One of my favourite and most recent destinations was El Cuyo in Mexico, about 2 hours from Cancun, I can provide all my recommendation for a safe and interesting experience. Hurtigruten cruise along the coast of Norway, London is always a good choice and so many others. Someone also mentioned Greece, an awesome itinerary would include Athens, Naxos, Santorini and Koufinisia. If you would like to message me, I would be happy to share the details.
Nora
A couple more things...Marcy McIlwraith sometimes I will join a MeetUp group activity at my destination in order to meet other people and often stay at an airbnb or B&B which is another way to have social interaction while travelling solo. Taking classes like cooking or photography or whatever you are interested in is another option

I travel by myself all the time, and lm 57. Check out a group on Facebook called Solo Women Travelers.
Lots of great advice from thousands of women all over the world.
Cathy
Join me on a small women's group to Bali. I can't add the FB page for some reason but it's under Erawan Travel - Babes in Bali. I'm Calgary based and have been offering these groups since 2002. This Oct 28th will be the 22nd Babes in Bali tour. Just 2 spots open. http://babesinbali.com/book-a-tour/

I am about your age and have used Exodus (https://www.exodus.co.uk/) and Explore (https://www.explore.co.uk) quite often. Always a mixture of single women, men, and couples. The group size is usually 12 to 16. . . I highly recommend either one.

Hello everyone... Looking for advice please. I am a single 51 year young woman who loves to travel. Any suggestions on good destinations for the single and adventurous where there are others like me? Not all couples is what I am getting at.
Thank you very much in advance for your great knowledge.
