Is Interjet a reliable airline for flying with young kids to Cancun from YVR?

Question:

Joanne
Lots of mayhem there right now..
Jeannett
In Acapulco for sure. Horrible drug war. Border towns. Not tourist areas. Don’t believe all the media hypes things up to be.
Linda
Joanne, Mexico is a big country, (and a wonderful one IMO), what are you referring to? We were even in Acapulco in November and had no problems. The other tourists were mostly Mexican and made us feel very welcome and safe.
Jon
Flying into Cancun doesn't mean you're staying in a ground zero for mayhem. Most of Mexico is quite safe. I'm a member of quite a few Mexico expat groups, with hopes of becoming one myself in a few years. Most expats who go back and forth use interjet a lot. Prices are generally quite a bit lower than others.
Jon
The New York Post? Hah! Why not the National Enquirer? Mexico is a huge country, in case you hadn't noticed. Whatever.
Hillary
Jon I've been there many times, my parents have a house there. Still not a place I'm keen on going back to, and nowhere I'll ever take my small kids. Haven't heard the recent stories of tourists being targeted lately? There's a million other places to visit.
Jon
You'd better not set foot inside anywhere in the U.S. because the south side of Chicago is a high-crime area. Certainly don't ever fly into O'Hare. Yes, i've heard the hysteria, and it appears to be effective for some people, especially fans of tabloids.
Hillary
Jon don't go there either right now. Not a fan of tabloids, just shared something from a friend.
Jon
Stay home. Check under the bed, too. And the NY Post is the definition of a tabloid.
Jon
My point is that the entire country of Mexico is not particularly unsafe because a couple of locations are. I'm not keen on Cancun or Playa, or Juarez, but these are exceptions to the rule. And anyone wanting to go anywhere on the Yucatan peninsula will probably fly into Cancun -- and probably get right out, to where they're going.
Linda
Mérida is considered the safest city in Mexico. We loved Valladolid, ride bikes around to the cenotes.
Michael
Jon I guess my point is, things can change quickly on a local level - - even on a week to week basis. That's why it's best to have friends show you around.
Truth be told, most people make it back from Mexico in one piece.
That said, a friend of an acquaintance got hit by a stray bullet and died-- not sure where she was travelling though.
Jeffrey
Flew from yvr on april 5th basic but great no issues. Still in mexico and very safe!
Gulu
Wow that's reassuring
Chris
I’ve flown with them many times and they are great. Little more leg room then other airlines, good prices.
Robin
Totally agree!
Angela
I’m flying down to Cancun next month and am using interjet - I’ll report back, but also, I have heard wonderful reviews from friends who have used the airline!
Gulu
That would be great! Thanks!!
Linda
The flight was ok, check in was bad. Maybe we just had bad luck getting the guy we did but I’d get there early.
Gulu
Oh bummer, what was the issue??
Linda
We were paying to check luggage, which was fine, they weren’t gouging, but they didn’t know how to accept payment. They told us the price in US$ (Also what their website says) then wanted pesos which we didn’t have, then they didn't know how to process a credit card payment and we had to keep running back and forth (50 metres or more). We were early, and could have gone and exchanged $, so it wasn’t a desperate situation but it was 45 minutes and not fun. Like I said the flight was fine.
Sandra
Flew interjet in Nov and Feb both great experiences. Low prices, extra.leg room, snacks and drinks included.
Gulu
Good to hear, I was wondering about the snack situation on board
Robin
Flew cancun -yvr end of November. Cheese sandwich and bag chips. More than I expected for the price. Buy food at the airport to take with you if you want more. Free beer and tequila!
Jeffrey
The snacks arent great but $300 can return you cant complain.
Karen
Flown within Mexico with them and will continue to do so! Great service!!
Marcel
Nice clean/new aircraft price is good also sand staff is always good with them when I fly with them
Jen
Flew with them in November from CDMX to Puerto Escondido. Roomy seats with lots of leg room, free booze and snacks....I was super happy with my $65 ticket
Marcel
Free drinks ?? Was it late ??
Carlene
DO NOT FLY WITH THEM!! Our flight was cancelled coming home from Cancun and they claim it was due to weather however other airlines had no issues flying into YVR. We have been informed we will not be reimbursed for the flight they cancelled. We had to take a different airline home and pay out of our pocket or wait days with 2 small children to get another flight out with interjet. No a good experience at all!
Marcel
Carlene sould make a complaint with PROFECO think you can make a complaint in Vancouver just google PROFECO
Carlene

Marcel do you have a complaints email address? That page, in English, is a little hard to navigate
Marcel
Believe you can go to the mexican consulate and they can help you fill out the complaint
Marcel
Not %100 but from what I understand they can help
Jeff
Marcel thanks. Will try to find an email address first, get the process started
Jeff
Run away! Never fly with these guys!!! Terrible policies in place, very unlike Canadian and USA passenger Bills of Rights. If everything's goes fine, it's good. If it at all goes wrong, you are a hostage.
Be warned.
Chris
Thats interesting, i was totally screwed by United years back and stranded in Mexico. interjet bailed me out and i have never had an issue with them, fly them multiple times a year. I guess all airlines are a roll of the dice.
Jeff
Chris so true. They cancelled or flight, next flight or was at least 4 more days, could be longer based on the number of customers trying to rebook. We had to pay for another flight out, interjet not reimbursing us for the flight not taken.
Who can wait >4 days, with little kids, work, school to get a flight out of a foreign country?
They also originally told us that we would have to go to CUN to claim the bag that was left in their possession... After we were already back in Canada
Chris
thats exactly what United did to me - 5 days plus stranded by United. Check your cc, you might have travel insurance. I got my replacement flights covered.
Jeff
Chris on that now, plus media, plus Profeco, plus Transportation boards

Flying with Interjet: Reviews and Tips
Introduction
Interjet is a Mexican low-cost airline that operates flights to various destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and the United States. It is known for its affordable fares and frequent promotions. However, there have been concerns raised about the airline's reliability, customer service, and overall flight experience.
Reviews
Reviews of Interjet flights are mixed. Some passengers report having positive experiences with the airline, praising its low fares, friendly staff, and comfortable seats. However, others have expressed dissatisfaction with Interjet's frequent delays, cancellations, and poor customer service.
In particular, many passengers have complained about Interjet's frequent flight delays. According to FlightStats, Interjet has one of the worst on-time performance records among major airlines. In 2019, only 55% of Interjet flights arrived on time.
Tips for Flying with Interjet
If you are planning to fly with Interjet, here are some tips to help you have a smooth and enjoyable experience:
- Be aware of the airline's reputation for delays and cancellations. Allow plenty of time for your trip and have a backup plan in case your flight is disrupted.
- Check the flight status before you go to the airport. This will help you avoid any surprises at the check-in counter.
- Arrive at the airport early. This will give you plenty of time to check in, go through security, and find your gate.
- Bring your own entertainment. Interjet does not offer in-flight entertainment on all flights, so it is a good idea to bring something to keep you occupied during the flight.
- Be patient and understanding. Flight delays and cancellations can be frustrating, but it is important to remember that these things can happen with any airline.
Conclusion
Interjet is a low-cost airline that offers affordable fares to a variety of destinations. However, passengers should be aware of the airline's reputation for delays and cancellations. By following the tips above, you can help minimize the risk of disruptions and have a more enjoyable flight experience.
