Where to go in Portugal and Spain And how long to stay in each spot. We have 2 months and like cycling, beaches, and good food. We don’t like it over 30 degrees.

Lol, I have places I want to promote this way, thanks. We often find the best recommendations come from BC because we have a common idea on good food.

Barcelona is awesome, but wait until mid-late September or it will likely be too hot. Or early to mid-May

My husband and I were set to spend 2 months (mid Oct to mid Dec) when life intervened, in a small community called Moraira, on the Costa Blanca - it was looking like an ideal spot, lots of restaurants, reasonably close to Alicante and in easy striking distance of Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, so a lot of the country could be toured. Apparently lots of biking in the area If you would like more info let me know this was the building (on the left ) we had a 2 bedroom apt in for $1500 a month. The beach was right in front. We will be trying to get back there soon.

You get your best rental deals if you can stay a month in each area - generally 1 month stay costs the same as 10 to 14 day stays, so that can be significant saving.

Last year, I stayed in Cascais, it's about 45 mins by direct train from Lisbon's train station-Cais do Sodre. Wonderful town and a great bike path along scenic route. I rented a bicycle, very affordable and would definitely go there again.

Just returned from Portugal in Nov - Dec. We cycled from Evora down along the border to the Algarve, over to Sagres and back up along the coast. If you want any tips on that route/renting bikes etc feel free to send me a pm

A 2-Month Itinerary for Cycling, Beaches, and Good Food in Portugal and Spain

If you're looking for a 2-month adventure that combines cycling, beaches, and good food, then Portugal and Spain are the perfect destinations for you. With their stunning landscapes, rich culture, and delicious cuisine, these two countries offer something for everyone.

Here's a detailed itinerary that will help you make the most of your time in Portugal and Spain:

Week 1: Lisbon, Portugal

Start your trip in Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal. Spend a few days exploring the city's historic Alfama district, riding a tram up to the Castelo de São Jorge, and sampling the local cuisine at one of the many traditional restaurants.

Week 2: Cycling the Algarve Coast

From Lisbon, rent a bike and cycle along the Algarve coast. This beautiful stretch of coastline is home to some of Portugal's best beaches, as well as charming towns and villages. Stop along the way to swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the scenery.

Week 3: Seville, Spain

Cross the border into Spain and head to Seville, the capital of Andalusia. Seville is a vibrant city with a rich history and culture. Spend a few days exploring the city's historic center, visiting the Alcázar of Seville, and enjoying the nightlife.

Week 4: Cycling the Camino de Santiago

From Seville, embark on a cycling pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago. This historic trail will take you through some of Spain's most beautiful countryside, as well as historic towns and cities. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to meet other pilgrims, learn about Spanish culture, and experience the country's stunning scenery.

Week 5: Barcelona, Spain

Finish your trip in Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Catalonia. Barcelona is a vibrant city with something for everyone, from world-class museums and architecture to beautiful beaches and delicious food. Spend a few days exploring the city's many attractions, and be sure to try some of the local cuisine.

Tips for Planning Your Trip

  • The best time to visit Portugal and Spain is during the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), when the weather is mild and there are fewer tourists.
  • If you're cycling, be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen.
  • Learn a few basic phrases in Portuguese and Spanish, as this will help you communicate with locals.
  • Be prepared for some heat, especially in the summer months. Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in some parts of Spain.
  • Have fun and enjoy your trip!
