Isn't it brutally hot and crowded in August?
Kim
Hot is great!
Jennifer
There's a heat wave in Europe right now. August? Stay away.
Terra
Portugal has major forest fires still going on. I'd avoid it.
Tracey
Good to know!

Anywhere? I'd do Scotland. In a heartbeat. In particular, I'd wander the Highlands, and potentially hit up the Shetland Isles.
CiCi
I'm off to Cambodia first 2 weeks of august!! go there!
Tandace
Thailand! Went in March would go back in a heart beat
Jax
Scotland, Ireland, England would be good options. Or Spain.

How about Nicaragua? I've been living in the beach town of San Juan del Sur for 4 1/2 years and have traveled around the country a fair amount. I am happy to answer any questions you have about travel here. Not sure if the sale on aeromexico is still available but my cousin booked a ticket for $308 CAD return.
Ali
$308? What time of year??
Elisha
Ali - November. But we also know a family from Calgary that is coming next month and I think they only paid around $425 USD for return tickets.

Calgary to Managua, Nicaragua - $294 to $439 CAD roundtrip including taxes !
Ali
Oh my that's some cheap flights. Maybe have to book something up
Elisha
Ali - So cheap! You should totally come back. I'm just sad it doesn't work the other way - Managua to Calgary.
Allegra
Thailand! So cheap, so beautiful and so much to do! Even if you just go to the islands! I highly recommend going up north in Thailand though to Chang Mai and Pai! Pai specifically is absolutely remarkable
Jennifer
4 days each Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Or keep it in Canada... Maritimes? PEI, Halifax etc.
Bill
It's Canada 150! Newfoundland or the Maritimes...great people, great food and drink, lots of history and culture, and mother nature has done some interesting things there too.
Kathryn
San Francisco and napa! Definitely better for adults. Maybe not for a full 2 weeks but could definitely do a week - 10 days.
Jennifer
Add Carmel to that!!
Susan
san Francisco?
Talia
Amsterdam and all around the Netherlands. There are direct flights there from Calgary and it is amazing. Great food, people, shopping, beautiful country. Just stay away from the touristy areas!
Raylene
Cambodia literally has all of those things!!! And it's cheap!
Chrystal
Hawaii. Any Island
Natalie
Krakow Poland and Prague Czech Republic. In krakow there is so much to see in my opinion and Auschwitz was a very deep experience for me. They have a website and can read up on the guidelines etc. Polish locals were so nice! I rented an apartment and it was like $350 for the week I think. In Prague you can go to the bone church outside the city, the theatres there are really cool and inexpensive compared to other places (for ballet, opera and acting) there is a castle and cheap beer and other stuff. Maybe fly into Berlin Germany first and train to the others, you probably could do all three in 2 weeks.

New Orleans

Iceland.

In my opinion 2 weeks is not really long enough to go to Asia, Africa, or Australia. By the time you fly there and get over jet lag you don't have many days left for exploring. I would stay in Central/South America or maybe Europe. We enjoyed Costa Rica when we were there in November.
Kenna
New Orleans, amazing musicians, food, ancient cemeteries. Freetours.com has an historic district tour, a ghost tour, a garden district tour, and a cemetery tour.
Alison
Go out east to the coast! Newfoundland!

I second Iceland!!!

Flights look the most reasonable to August to N, Central & South america rather than Europe/Asia (according to a quick look at skyscanner).
I was going to suggest Paris for the cemeteries (including the catacombs - great for a hot day, but also just for the long histories and historical figures buried in many of them), or Iceland for the summer puffin season as two weeks is probably about the right time for a road trip around the entire island and it's one of the shortest transatlantic flights from Alberta to Europe, but they aren't really the deals at the moment. Not terrible, but not exceptional either.
We did a road trip up from Seattle to Calgary (including Victoria) in about 1 week, but I think you could certainly make a decent 2 week road trip out of driving to Vancouver Island and back by taking two different routes and planning some interesting stops along the way including on the island, in the Okanagan, etc.

London for most of what is on your list. Scratch off the beach unless you want to go to Cornwall. Direct flight from Calgary. Or, fly to Italy, go south, sicilly or Puglio.

Indonesia for sure!

Georgia and South Carolina. Atlanta, Savanah, Hilton Head, Charleston. Less Jet lag, great food, cemeteries, music and amazing cultural sites with the bonus of beaches if you need a day off!

Iceland is supposed to be amazing & there are some great deals lately. It is on my wish list for this summer.

I have to toss in a Chile recommendation. I have lived here for five years and it is super beautiful with lots to see and do with such variety. Flights are a little more expensive but worth it

Hello Kim, a Friend of mine asked me for some help in nice cheap vacation tips for her and her partner, I sent them to her. I am not a Travel Agency Rep. I am only a Travel aficionado and I have studied Tourism and Business Administration so, I know few tricks. I gave her some dates about the last days in August but... with all those "Tips an info" you can look in the dates that are convenient for you. I checked: Cuba, Costa Rica & Nicaragua. I will send you a message with a word attachment with prices for two people.
Dorinda
Hi I would love some ideas for a reasonable priced trip but with lots of fun and experience for 2 adults during Christmas 7-10 days and leave around the 28th of December
Ana
Hello Dorinda, I can share what I check for my friend; get the ideas from there and if you like anyone of them just change for the dates that you want, that way you can have an idea how much it will cost
Maryam
Hi Ana,
Can I ask for a copy too? Thank you
Ana
Sure, you just modify it looking for the dates that you want maybe you get it cheat too. Have fun
Ana
If you go to any of my suggestions just please share the pics. and the experience ok? Thank you and good luck
Ana

Nova Scotia!
Rodney
Flying to Halifax and doing a Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Tour would be high on my list. Recommended this for some friends a few years ago who had never been back east and they rate it as one of their best vacations ever!
Coreen
I have to agree with you Rodney. We went last year (drove) and I want to go back and spend more time.
Michelle
I went to Nova Scotia last January - so lovely, and I think summer would be even better (and certainly warmer)
Rodney
If you liked it during winter time, you will love it during summer time!! Maritime winters tend to suck!
Danya
No kids! So jealous!
Greg
Mexico City on an inexpensive budget..... Bueonos Aires on a more expensive one (you can visit the mausoleum of Evita - Eva Peron)
Kathryn
Just booked Mexico City! 310 + tax return.
Corinne
Costa Rica! Heat, swimming, walking, good food. Flights are only $399 inc tax return so maybe that's less than flying to maritimes.
Jerilynn
Mexico City was a wonderful surprise.

Where would you go if you had the first 2 weeks of August with no kids? Flying from Calgary. NOT all inclusive. Doing something - anything. Beer, good food, architecture, cemeteries, culture, heat, swimming, walking? Thoughts? NOT all inclusive.
