Wanting to possibly plan a trip to Glasgow, Scotland next April for my family of 6 (2 adults, 4 kids) we would need to be there for a wedding and then after that would like to travel a bit around and see some places. I’ve never been before and am pretty overwhelmed at all the options. Anyone done a trip like this before. Where did you go, how did you get there, etc. we would like to stay for 2 weeks, 3 max.

Lots of options. You can rent a van and travel around towards the north in a circular route. You can do train, but I wonder if with the large family that would be economical. Bus probably too slow and you wouldnt be able to venture too far, and into out of the way places. We were there twice in the past couple of years. Edinburgh has lots of museums and historical things for kids to do. I am not sure how old your are? Another thing you could do is stay in Glasgow for a week and then rent a vrbo for another week in another area, say Aberdeen and do day trips from both cities. The distances are not far for Canadians, when driving. The Scots are very knowledgeable and courteous drivers. Fort William is another lovely place with lots of day trips and hiking if you enjoy that - hill walking. Its a beautiful country. When we traveled there with our children (we also have four) we would go into bakery shops and you can purchase snacks and drinks and lunch tthings there. They will make up bacon rolls for example. Much less expensive than a sit in restaurant.

Be prepared if considering a larger vehicle to rent. I went in a small RV (think Sprinter size) and the roads are much narrower there. It was stressful, and I don't consider myself a nervous driver. Some smaller roads are one vehicle wide.

Bring warm clothes and a hooded gortex jacket. It can be absolutely freezing and you don't want to miss out on the beauty because of weather. One of my favourite towns ever is Oban. Gorgeous. Enjoy. Scotland is second to none.

Isle of sky is beautiful but hard to find accommodations and town closes down around 6. Lochness is amazing and Edinburgh is as well! They do multi-day bus tours to different places which looked great but we will for sure rent and rv next time we go! You for sure don’t want to spend all your time in Glasgow. I would even recommend driving a few hours down to the Lake District.
