The Mist and Vernal falls trail was amazing on a hot day. They aren’t kidding about the mist! The Yosemite falls hike is also nice, but start early. The top section is very exposed and the trail gets very busy

We didn’t camp, but spent the day driving through this magnificent park. Ensure you have plenty of supplies: gas, food, water, toiletries, batteries, chargers, shoes and clothing. Entering the park, there were no retail or lodging (didn’t see any) you can access. Be prepared, we had a wonderful time.

Yosemite Valley has a lot of lodging and retail options! You may have missed it somehow but those items can definitely be bought on site. You’re right that it’s always better to be prepared though!

We went last September and it was great! If you haven't already reserved camping then be prepared for driving early mornings to try and get a first come first serve site. We ended up camping at Tamarack flats. It gets chilly at elevation but totally worth it. There is also a small national forest campground out near El Portal that is hardly managed and you can probably camp for free like we did.
If you're looking at backcountry camping then it automatically gives you a permit for Half Dome (the park rangers in Yosemite are complete Nazis compared to other parks so make sure you have a permit).
Hikes:
Sentinel Dome/Taft Point
Inspiration Point
Cloud's rest (we didn't get time due to an injury in our group).
The Mist trail is still worth it without the Half Dome finish.
Just enjoy Yosemite! It's a perfect combination of dirtbag, climber, and tourist culture that really works and everybody gets along!

Not sure if it still runs, but we took the hikers bus up to tenya lakes and hiked back to our car in the valley via clouds rest with 1 night in the back country. We also got passes to hike half dome which was amazing if your okay with heights

Also, depending on the length of your stay, my fiance and I did a 3 night trip from San Francisco that was amazing. We started by going into Sequoia National park from the southwest entrance. Saw general Sherman and all that and traveled North and out, back in down to Kings Canyon National park. Back out and up to the southwest entrance of Yosemite and in. Glacier park first thing and then up and out through tunnel view and into the valley. Next day was through the park to inyo Forest and back. Didn't have a lot of time for hiking, but saw so much amazing stuff.
It was great going south to north because the views just kept getting more and more spectacular as we progressed.
