I can't speak for Vietnam, but we used it for Europe and it was seamless!
Holly
Same. Not Vietnam., But US, France and Mexico. We'll be trying it in Thailand in Feb.
Really easy to use.
Sammy
Used it in Europe and it was amazing!
Janelle

I'm also currently trying out an e-sim from Fonus, running alongside my Fido physical sim card. Fonus has a global sim for as cheap as $28 CAD per month, so far so good. I'm going to try it for about 3 months that will include a trip to Mexico to see how it performs, then will probably ditch Fido and go with Fonus, the sim is currently good for 55 countries with no roaming fees.
Jan
Kevin interesting! This is cheaper than Fido? Will you be able to call and text from their assigned number or using whatsapp? Meaning a data plan sans a regular mobile number
Kevin
Jan I'm currently using my Fido sim for calls and texts and the Fonus e-sim for data only so yes, whatspp works just fine, there is an assigned number that I don't use. If I decide to go with Fonus as sole provider, they are able to port my number over and I believe the use VoIP for phone calls.

I have some questions about esims… I am older and let’s just say, that this type of stuff isn’t my forte. Would anyone want to DM me and be open to some questions?
Jan
Trinity esims are providing data plans, you use the apps to make a call, send a message, video call and access to the internet and the apps. In this regard, your mobile unit has a capacity to handle esim. Btw, what is your mobile phone and what model?
Trinity
Jan I have an iPhone 13 max. How does it not “accidentally” use your cell phone provider?
Dawn
Trinity I also have an iPhone 13. Go to settings and then click on ‘cellular’ and then ‘SIM’. Turn your Canadian number to ‘off’.
See from my phone now I’m using a secondary SIM in Mexico and my Canadian number is turned off.
Trinity
Thank you!!

Used it in UK and Europe, son used it in Uruguay and South America. Perfect

If I were you, I’d buy a SIM card at the airport or seven eleven in Vietnam. I’ve used airalo in Europe and it’s great there but in Asia it’s much cheaper and easier to get a physical SIM card if you can and your phone has a SIM slot.
I travelled through all of SE asia with physical sim cards, you can get unlimited data for anywhere between $7-30 CAD.
Jan
Brooklyn the advantage of having a physical card is that you have an assigned number which you can call, text, video call and use of the internet(all apps) unlike the esim, it is just a data plan.
Brooklyn
Jan yes, that’s why I suggested a physical sim, also better coverage in SE asia than airalo!

I’ve used it in Malaysia and Singapore earlier this year, without. problem. We were in Vietnam in 2017, before e-sims we’re a thing and I bought a SIM card there in an electronics store . No problems at all, but I had to bring my passport in order to purchase the SIM card.
Von
I used it in South America for 6 months this year and currently using it in Portugal now and it's great! Highly recommend.
James
We just got back from Vietnam. We purchased an eSIM from Gigago. It worked perfectly our entire trip in Vietnam. We airalo when in Hong Kong during our trip and it worked well there.
Mark
Anyone tried this in Cuba?
Richard
We used airalo in Ireland last year ,little confusing to set up,biggest thing is ,it doesn't work on all phones
Emily
I’ve used airalo in 26 different countries and have had zero issues. I have the data plan paid for and activated before getting in the plane. When I land, I toggle it on and you instantly have data. Works awesome
Annette
I used it in Europe
Worked amazing in every single country
Zach
Yes it’s amazing
Farah
I used airalo in Egypt. Worked well. If your phone gives you, the option, I suggest that you don’t “convert to eSIM”. I did this and it gave me nothing but grief when I got back, I spent three consecutive mornings on the phone with Telus, and then they finally agreed to provide me with the new SIM card. Chose the “add eSIM option”. You can switch back to your physical SIM much easier when you come back.
Lisa
Using the airalo in Bangkok now and works great. Good option and cheap. Don’t even have to take your current sim out.
El
I’ve used airalo in 15+ countries with no issues.
Feel free to use my referral code and we both get $3 off

If you are landing at Ho Chi Minh airport, all you need is a unlock phone. And go to one of the phone kiosk they can put an ESIm in for you with a plan of unlimited data, 100 mins calling in Vietnam for 380, 000.00 đồng for 30 days. We have them when we landed 3 weeks ago, and has been using it. Travel to Hanoi, Sapa, hạ Long bay. Phu quốc, now back in Ho Chi Minh City. No problem at all. Son has been using hot spot for all his social media sites and no complaints.

Just came back from Vietnam 2 weeks ago. airalo worked fine.
I actually have the Asia region pack and it worked fine everywhere.
Kelly
I have used it and like Ubigi better. Found it cheaper too.

I traveled to Vietnam this year. We bought airalo for one of our phones for a few days, just as a backup, but were quickly able to actually sign up for phone plans that provided a sim card. It was a lot cheaper, and allowed us to make calls.
- the airport sells them if you want the quickest option. It's generally more $, but still cheaper than airalo
- you can get them at a lot of convenience stores in town (like K-Mart)
Dhel
Used it in Hawaii it is great and hassle free was able to use waze, Facebook and messenger without problem.
Nigel
Better to just get a local Sim card while you are there and have the phone as well. I have used airalo in three countries and it’s great and you can still use whatsapp and Line etc. for calls.
