Sushi at the fish market, ramen stalls (try the most beat up looking place one!), if not Ichiran ramen at shinjuku crossing is a start, some katsu place, and teppenyaki is also a must!

My doctor just recommended Ichiran! We'll definitely have to try it

any tips on internet access there? Mainly Tokyo and Kyoto. Heard pocket WiFi is good but which one?

I personally prefer SIM card instead of pocket wifi. Pocket Wifi consumes too much battery.

I booked online for a pocket wifi last time and they shipped to my hotel a day ahead of my arrival!! Battery lasted for a day (depends on devices). Easy return, simply put in the envelop they provided and give it back to the front counter. The hotel will ship it back for u.

Depends on how much you want to use it! There is free wifi available pretty much everywhere in public. You can also present your passport and they will give you wifi account for 14 days for free. Otherwise if you value snapchat and Internet at all time econnect wifi pocket would be the one

Yah I read about that seems good too but my friends r worried if it's good if we're on the go and walking around trying to find our way around all the time. Cause then it would constantly disconnect if we walk out of range right? Or if the WiFi area pretty good? Did u get pocket WiFi when u're there? Did u find it useful or not necessary?

My husband says most airbnb hosts will lend pocket wifi to their guests. The one we'll be staying at in Tokyo will have it

If you have google map download it and make sure you turn on the location service. Even if you are on the airplane mode as long as the map is downloaded, it will track where you are and all you need is to pinned where you want to go that day!

I used a pocket wifi and it was totally worth it. Did some small mom and pop type of dining, so the itranslate was super useful

Good to hear from someone who's used it cause I couldn't decide between the extra convenience or whether I'm just paying for something unnecessary if WiFi's everywhere.

For reasonable food prices do your shopping below the train stations. Especially in Kyoto. Great food fair there. Also, the best places to buy salads and buns for on the go food was 7 Eleven. Crazy eh?

I know 7-11s in Asia are much better. Thanks for the tip, I'm sure we will be needing lots of on-the-go food

Family mart is another convenience store and the food is amazing there too!

If in doubt, look for the supermarkets in the basements of major department stores - they almost always have take out available at really good prices

My fav place to be was ueno - gardens, museums, temple, the zoo, shopping. Harajuku is a MUST SEE! I just came back at the end of july and loooved it!

Harajuku is a unique and fun district. Akihabara is also very interesting to see and if you're a huge anime fan it's definitely a must.
Sashimi bowls at the fish market is hands down the best you'll ever have and worth the money. Some of the best ramen is from very small restaurants that only seat 10 or so people and you'll see line ups outside of them.

I went there in May. There are indoor and outdoor pools. Very relaxing. I like the atmosphere there. So many things to do in Tokyo!!! Do you want to experience wearing kimono? The experience I can't forget.

Which one did u book? We booked in kinosaki out by Kyoto. Would like to go to one like kusatsu but bit far out so couldn't fit it in.

Also suggestions for reasonable places to stay in Tokyo?

For Tokyo - Check out Weekly Mansions $65-$75 a night in Kameido or Ochanomizu. I prefer to stay on or near a central train line. Like the Sobu line or Yamanote

Ahh gotcha. Probably want to stay in Shinjuku then or Shibuya lots of entertainment, restaurants and shopping. Even just walking around at night it's all lit up like Times Square. Enjoy! Go to the government meant building in Shinjuku and you can go up to the 50th? floor for free and get great views of this amazing megacity! Also recommend day pass for train. 750yen for the day multiple trips on same train co. Line. i.e. JR line depends on where you go. And the ticket machines have an English button so easy to use. If you get lost find a college student and speak English slowly and you should be fine.

Shinjuku is a big area so try to find something closer to either a subway or train line.

If you are down to adventure I highly recommend capsule hotel! It's quite an experience

Note: in Shinjuku especially, you likely won't get an early check-in without paying an hourly rate for the extra time.

Definitely Shibuya district. So many spots there. Try the L'occitane cafe ( yes the French skin care brand ).. You can have a nice window view of the busiest corner in Japan. My favorite is the crab leg salad, with nice organic tea and dessert , for less than $20! Score!
