Take the ferry to Cozumel and go do the Cozumel bar hop. Swim with the turtles in Akumel. Ruins in Tulum also. nice small beach there as well. There are many Cenotes you can visit without a guide by taking the local bus system
Pat
All beaches in Mexico are public.
Sherry
Wah Wah Beach Bar Calle 2 & the Beach. Close to ferry dock.Free loungers great food afternoon & evening entertainment. Wah Wah is on facebook !
Sherry
Day passes for resorts are pretty pricey $70-$90 per person is the norm
Casey
Take the public transit from Playa del Carmen to Tulum (amazing beach in Tulum). Cost like 3 bucks. The quad tours of the jungles and cenotes are super fun.
Simone
I agree on the Cenotes, Dos Ojos is amazing
Carole
Hit up Playa Maroma if you can. Voted one of the top beaches in the world.
Xplor is a fun park for kids and adults both. Likely to be very busy over the holidays tho ( as will most parks ). Akumal is always a good choice to snorkel with turtles (but it's getting pretty popular too). Tulum is a funky place to visit!!
Kyra
Akumal Beach is just south of Playa. It's a beautiful free beach and it's a popular spot to swim with the turtles! There's some awesome restaurants and a few local shops to check out there as well.
Natalie
Thanks for the help! I cant wait to check out some of these beaches
Karen
We took the ferry from Playa to Cozumel. They always say not to rent scooters but we did & toured the island. We thought was a great way to see it. You will find lots of remote beaches along the way & they'll all have a bar.
Wendy
Also did this and rented scooters! Best thing we did!!!
Mike
Go to aukmul bay bring mask and snorkel and swim with the turtles
Keri
Akumal is a beautiful beach and of course snorkelling with the sea turtles- don't pay fir a tour though just bring your own gear (Costco has a decent set) xel-ha , XCARET , Explore are fun Day parks just depends on what you're wanting to do. I'm also pretty sure you can pay a day fee at most resorts. If you have time to take a trip to isla mujeres ( island of women) do it! It's small and beautiful! Beach is awesome. You rent golf carts and drive around the whole island. It's a great little place to spend a day
Karen
Loved xel-ha! Also Tulum. If youre going to see some mayan ruins go to Tulum. These ones are by the sea. Very nice.
Coreen
Akumal beach is beautiful and swimming with the turtles there is amazing. The Cenotes are pretty cool too.
Brenda
Xel-Ha is a water themed amusement park with awesome snorkeling. there is also an eco tour that incorporates a small zipline, swimming in a cenote, lunch at a real Mayan village and a couple of hours in Coba. If you don't want to make it to any of the ruins, catch a cab to Tulum and visit the only ruins that are located on the beach
Natalie
Oooh I love snorkeling so it may be worth it just for that. Is it best to book a tour there? or cab
Keri
i just took a cab when I went. That way you can leave when you want.
Keri
Natalie Brady just so you know Cozumel is one of the top Reefs in the world. So if you like snorkelling that's a great place to go as well
Nicole
All of these sound so fun!! Are they young kid friendly? 5 and 3.5 years
Keri
I have seen young children at the parks lots! There's a lot to see. I'm sure one is a safer choice to entertain younger kids but you can just see what suits you best
Nicole
I would love to mark swimming with turtles off my list but didn't know if it was age appropriate for them
Keri
I think it might be a bit hard because they need to swim but if you are with someone that you can take turns with the kids then you can swing it fir sure. You don't need to take a tour, just go with your own gear and chill out in the beach.
Maros
Mayan experience tour - Cenote - climb pyramid and repel into a sink hole and lunch - all in one trip!
Sean
Xplor was fun if you're into adventure type stuff. Probably the best theme park in the area (Long ziplines, cave swimming/rafting, ATV, etc). Youre there all day! You can negotiate with some salespeople on the main drag in Playa for a bit of a deal
Darci
Akumal beach is where you can snorkel with the giant sea turtles. Awesome beach
Lynda
Tulum (not the ruins but the beach behind the town) hands down gorgeous public beach.
