I'm heading to Asia here shortly (Tokyo, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand), is there any must-bring item you recommend? I was in Bali last year on my only trip to Asia, so I have most covered, but I feel like I'm missing something

Bug spray and after bite. Nothing there will compare to ours. And lotion. It's difficult to find ones without bleach in them. If a female is traveling with you, I would recommend her bringing feminine hygiene products as well.

Make sure to visit Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Bohol in the Philippines. If you have more time go to Caramoan where they did Survivor US. Dont stay in Manila. HEAVY TRAFFIC will kill you. Go outside the capital and explore the provinces. You will have more fun there and people are way nicer. LOL. Learn to haggle/negotiate on prices of services and stuff too. Lastly, have fun and take care.

Visit Butanding in Oslob, Cebu and thresher shark in Malapascua, Cebu. How about scuba diving in Apo island, by heading to Negros, fronting Oslob, Cebu. Just take a Ceres aircon bus from Cebu city to Oslob, swimming with the butangding whales are up to 12noon only, then take another Ceres bus to Sibulan port (20-30mins), ferry to Sibulan is about 20-30mins too, from Sibulan, take a trike to Dumaguete city, stay in town o/n, early AM following day, take a bus to Malatapay and take a boat to Apo island for a day. After diving in Apo, you can a Ceres back to Cebu direct from Dumaguete (no need to go back to Sibulan).
Do bring lotion with SPFs, ziplock bags in different sizes, travel light (hand carry luggage if at all possible), bring or a cheap mobile phone (open line) & get a pay as you go sim card for local calls & wifi in each country you visit, leave expensive gadgets at home, bring OTC meds like tylenol, imodium & benedryl. A good size all purpose towellete which you can use as inflight blanket, towel, mat, cover your head when it gets very hot, bandana, etc. I try not to bring jeans, kinda heavy, instead I bring light pants and buy a pair of jeans when I need one.
Have fun in Cebu.

Thanks everyone!
Some really good suggestions, some on my list already and some I've missed.
And I'm flattered that you suggest condoms, best of luck to me hahaha

Antihistamines... they reduce ear ache in case you get one while swimming or on the plane. Also reduce swelling if you get bitten

Make sure to have proper shots. Check with Travel Clinic. Twin Rix Hep A&B shot very important to have. Also I suggest to always carry some toilet paper with you wherever you go; some public washrooms do not provide them.

Got my shots last year, and my typhoid vaccine

Profile picture of Carly

Lukas consider the rabies vaccine if you don't already have it. I got nipped at by a stray in Bangkok but fortunately it didn't get through my pants.

Profile picture of Kristen

Kristen

Rabies vaccine is $$$. Better to get it there if you do get bit. I believe you have 24 hours after the bite to get the shot.

Profile picture of Rhonda

Rhonda

Some of the rabies vaccines in the East are not up to standard. I know this from experience. And they are stupid expensive.

Profile picture of Carly

Carly

Kristen Depending on where you are you might not be able to get it in twenty-four hours. When I was in Mandalay this summer people were having to go to Yangon to get the vaccine as there was none left in the city. If you're on an island and you have to wait for a ferry it can be even longer. (That being said I still don't have the vaccine myself...)

It really depends what a persons plans are. I probably would get it in advance for certain situations. And yes it definitely depends if you'll be in the middle of no where or not. Normal travel, I wouldn't bother personally

A small towel. We went to Japan recently and noticed everyone carrying small towels to wipe their face and neck with and we didn't understand until we made our way to the underground train station and you soon realize why, as the humidity engulfs you. And I also second the rain coat and umbrella ideas - absolutely essential!

Most public washrooms in Japan don't have paper towels either for hand drying.

Must-Bring Item for Your Trip to Asia

If you're heading to Tokyo, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, there is one must-bring item that I highly recommend - a portable power bank.

While you may have most things covered from your previous trip to Bali, having a reliable power bank can be a lifesaver during your travels in Asia. With all the sightseeing, taking photos, using maps, and staying connected with loved ones back home, your phone's battery can drain quickly. Having a power bank will ensure that you can recharge your devices on the go and never miss a moment.

Additionally, in some areas of Asia, access to power outlets may be limited or unreliable, making a power bank even more essential. You don't want to be caught with a dead phone in a foreign country, especially when you need it for navigation or emergencies.

Investing in a high-quality power bank with a large capacity will give you peace of mind and keep you connected throughout your trip. Look for one that is lightweight, compact, and has multiple charging ports so you can charge multiple devices simultaneously.

So, don't forget to pack a portable power bank for your upcoming adventure in Asia. It may seem like a small item, but it can make a big difference in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.
