The Shinkansen (bullet train) goes to other cities and towns. Is there another location you want to visit? You could do a few days in Tokyo and a few days there... maybe Kyoto or Osaka? Here's where they all go: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2018.html
Mark
Take the train to Kyoto. Many incredible ancient places to visit. Also, check out the Ginza district in Tokyo. It’s really great with all the upscale shops and restaurants.
Kerry
I also highly recommend Kyoto! Hotels are expensive in Tokyo, consider an airbnb. We also rented a portable mifi which gave us wifi for maps etc. It was cheap and well worth it!
Derrick
Go see some live music in Tokyo; best music scene in the world
Morgan
Day trip to Nikko
David
Check out the only in Japan channel on YouTube, some really good info in there for things to do and see.
Autumn
Dont know if you like animals but there are variety of themed Animal Cafes. Dog Cafes, Cat Cafes, Sheep Cafes, Owl Cafes etc etc.
I didn't go, but Robot Restaurant is a hot spot.
Harajuku.
Rebekah
The Knot was in the Shinjuku district, and I thought it was fantastic!
There’s so much to do in Tokyo, but if you’re looking to branch out I’d recommend Hakone. It’s a small mountain town and you can stay in a local ryokan.
Jim
Rebekah Do the Ryokans have a private bathroom?
Jim
Rebekah thank you, I would love to experience a ryokan so this has been helpful.
Jayson
This all matters where you board the boat and airport your using. The Tokyo area is HUGE. There are exciting neighborhoods in Tokyo, great spots locally like Kamakura and Nikko. And other great places like Kyoto and Nara
Shane
You obviously have no choice but to do this!!

I used to live in Kichijyoji in Tokyo - they have a wonderful park and the Ghibli museum (Totoro)
Jennifer
Jayson is the ghibli museum worth it? My son is planning to go while he’s in Tokyo for a week. It’s probably what he’s most excited about
Victoria
We stayed in an apa hotel in downtown Tokyo, it was same price as an airbnb and came with breakfast! Check out the apa chain of hotels
Jim
Thank you all for the great information and suggestions, I have really appreciate it

My husband & I are taking a cruise around Japan in Oct 2020 from Tokyo. When we get off the ship we would like to spend a few more days (up to a week) in Tokyo area. We are looking for suggestions for tours, things to do and recommendations for a hotel for that time. We would also like to experience the bullet train. Thanks.
