Love Tokyo for the hustle bustle. Bought a 7 day rail pass. Took the bullet train to Osaka and spent a couple nights. Then took train to Osaka and stayed there. Also did day trips to Hiroshima and Nara (where the Bowing deer are). Lots to do in all 3 of these places. Check out the cherry blossoms if you’re there at the right time. Just walk and explore and eat.

Forgot, get your international drivers license before you go and do the go kart tour. You ride go carts around the streets. We drove through the big crossing in shibuya.

Tokyo is just wild. We enjoyed staying in the shinjuku area - great accessibility. Then take the Shinkansen train down to Kyoto - a beautiful city with some awesome cultural attractions! We were there in winter so the rest of our trip was spent skiing, but we have heard amazing things about Osaka as well, and day trip to Nara!

I’ve been 6 times, work related but did lots of tourist things. There’s a tour of Tokyo Bay that’s great, I used viator, best to book tours around Tokyo. Kyoto via bullet train is great. There’s a tour that includes Mount Fuji that’s great, so much to see and do, fantastic country!
John
There is Tokyo Disneyland and there is a universal studios in Osaka with Mario Brothers Land

If you like nature, I would definitely recommend checking out Mount Fuji area. It won’t be open hiking season yet, so you’ll have to hike at our own risk should you choose to. But it’s a beautiful area with lots of lakes around.

Love all these comments. I have been to Tokyo once and would go back in a second
. Japan is very clean; the people are very sweet and honest. Tokyo is soooo modern, it will blow your mind
We stayed in Shinjiku. My cousin lives there so her and her husband and her in-laws took us around and sent us on a couple of tours! I wish I remembered the name! We did all the cool young people shopping areas, Harijuku, Ginza (? for electronics) ? ?
The big splurge was Roppongi Hills for dinner. And a day trip to sky tram @ Hakone ?
PS you’ll see marigolds there! And every colour in the world hydrangeas!! They grow wild along side of the road.
The transit system is mind blowing! Enjoy yourselves to the max

If you can spare a day and a half or two, Kinosaki-Onsen is a must. It’s north of Kyoto but train does drop off right in town. Book into a ryokan, pre-order the half-board dinner and breakfast. Ryokan staff will help you dress in Yukata and wool coats, then send you off with a basket of towels and a pass to visit the seven hot springs there. It’s much smaller than other hot spring towns, mostly locals who visit during their holidays.

We loved Japan! Highly recommend the following: Tokyo (we stayed in Tokyo and shinjuku but preferred the latter, Mario kart, Disneyland and DisneySea, many beautiful temples and shrines to visit, go up the sky tree), Mt Fuji (lots of onsen with beautiful views, lake cruise, ropeway cable car), Snow Monkey Park outside Nagano, Kyoto (tea ceremony, golden temple, Nijo castle, imperial palace), universal studios Osaka, Hiroshima (peace museum, must try okonomiyaki).
Jill
Ghibli Park in I think Nagoya!! Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka. Get a shinkansen pass/JR Pass

Did you all book this on your own? I’m looking to go with my hubby and two kids and am overwhelmed at trying to plan something like this. Can anyone recommend a travel agent to help out?

- Nara: Nara is a small city known for its ancient temples, including the Todai-ji Temple, which houses the Great Buddha statue. It is also famous for the deer that roam freely in Nara Park.
- Hiroshima: While often associated with the tragic events of World War II, Hiroshima is a vibrant city with a rich history and culture. The Peace Memorial Park and Museum are must-visit attractions.
