Has Anyone Ordered a Vodafone SIM on Amazon for Use in Europe?

Question:

Denise

Hello everyone, I am going on a trip to Europe next week for 2 weeks and I just wanted to see if anyone has ever ordered a vodafone SIM on Amazon prior to their trip. I am getting mixed reviews on Amazon. Did it work? Any issues when you landed? Should I activate or prior to my flight?
I am going to Greece, Montenegro, Italy and Spain.
Thank you in advance!

I usually buy mine at the airport from the vodaphone kiosks and never had any issues.

Marsha

Christin is there options for 7-10 days?

Profile picture of Christin

Christin

Marsha It was about 50 go for about 30 to 50 euros. It’s a prepaid SIM and they install it for you. Just Google to see if there’s a vodaphone kiosk at your arrival airport. Sometimes it’s outside and nearby the subway stations.

Get it there, it’s cheap and they’ll put it in and you leave!!

Marsha yes in UK at Heathrow, and in Rome I did it at the TIM kiosk

and keep that sim for future usage. most european sims cover europe and extras. (it's cheaper for me to use uk sim than canadian sim, when im in USA, for instance)

Profile picture of Eunice

Eunice

Pauline do u need to return the TIM sim at the end of the trip? I’m wondering as I’m travelling through Italy, so won’t be returning to the origin.

Profile picture of Pauline

Pauline

Eunice no you just take it out yourself. Make sure you know when you put your Canadian card!!!

We had great success with the orange plan available on Amazon - great coverage and excellent connection

ClaireWaI did the eSIM from orange and was happy with it

Andrea , I use airalo esims all over the world and live them - but some people have difficulty getting them to work the first time. Great data packages combined with a Whats App phone and you're good to go!

ClaireWa I also used orange. It's good because it also provides coverage to some non-EU European countries like Switzerland and Andorra. My sim card initially had some issue and I paid a visit to their main store in downtown Paris. They speak English and fixed it in 10 mins

Denise buy it there it’s so much simpler. The last one I bought was country specific and was 20 euros for the month for data and calls in that country. Explain what you need and the vodafone person will know what you want.
Specific airports will have the vodafone kiosk at arrivals - keep in mind the lines can be very long.

If you only need data, no need call, I would suggest to use airalo e sim.
I use it in Spain last month works well, a lot cheaper than buying a real SIM card. You can use my referral code to get US$3 off, MIOOI2006
FYI, I will get US$3 credit too

Don’t bother with those - get an esim it’s super easy once you download the app and follow instructions. Just make sure your phone is unlocked. And if you run out of data you have the option to top up on the app. It works worldwide and I’ve used it in several countries so would highly recommend it. You’ll have access to all things data! It’s cheap and effective vs roaming.
Here’s my referral code for $3 off with initial activation. Enjoy! Code: NEHA7341
Edit: tip - if you’re using an iPhone turn off uploads of photos to the iCloud on data (set to wifi only) and you’ll save lots of data.

Denise

Neha which esim do you recommend? I found a good deal with Nomad.

Profile picture of Neha

Denise I’ve never used nomad so I can’t comment on it. I’ve used airalo worldwide and it’s been great for speed and efficiency.

How much is this? Whenever i go to eastern europe i just get a sim card at a grocery store and top it up. Really easy and cheap

Profile picture of Denise

Martina it's currently on sale for 22.99 but I'm kind of concerned it's a scam

I would highly recommend the airalo app if you’re okay with data only and not having the ability to call locally! I purchased the 3gb of data Europe Region eSim for $13 USD and it worked like a charm. Just follow the instructions on the app to install. Super easy and can be set up ahead of time. Takes about 5 min to set up. When you land in Europe and turn on your phone it activates. By far the easiest and most painless way to get a sim while travelling

I've been using the eSIM from airalo, and it's great! It works on the TIM network in Italy - have yet to see what it's like in Switzerland.
Beware that vodafone GB limits can be lower when roaming in Europe. Much lower, even half, depending on the country you are traveling in.

I also did it at both the Rome and Lisbon airports and the vodafone staff switched it for me. It does change your phone number though - and you won’t get voice calls from your home phone #. Otherwise worked great for really inexpensive (unlike my Rogers roam like home plan…

Don't get it right at the airport but there are lots of kiosks and small shops that sell vodafone. Very reasonable and no risk

We purchased an eSim prior to leaving home .. used https://www.airalo.com/regional-esim - it was excellent! Did not have to fumble removing SIM card. Purchased a regional one for Europe as it works in all European countries vs a single location. Happy travels

airalo eSim cards are the best. No hassle and no hardware to deal with.

Get it when you arrive and never get it from the airport. There almost always a hidden charge. Go where locals go if you can wait it out.

I also highly recommend both orange (physical SIM cards from any airport kiosk once you get there, super affordable) or airalo if you have a phone that can take eSIM and if the people you connect faith are using socials/whatsapp or equivalent apps. Both are great and really beat those roaming plans by miles.

I have used Maya mobile esim card. Worked well when I was in Greece. I don’t think I will buy SIM cards anymore.

Profile picture of Jade

I use a Nomad eSim when I go (esim only works with certain phones so check if yours is compatible). Esims are great options for data only. I got 10GB data for €16.5 (~$30CAD)

Profile picture of Denise

Denise

Jade yes this is currently the app I am looking at cause currently there is a deal for 20gb for 30 days for $33.50

Profile picture of Jade

I had no issues with mine throughout the trip - I really recommend them. Just remember to activate it in the app before you take off so that you can have access to it when you land. They will send you instructions on this too

I’ve used orange with no issues. But also have bought a sim at the airport - cheaper for sure. I currently have a giffgaff SIM card that I keep a pay as you go plan on. They ship sims to you internationally!

E-sims will be way easier for you. Just download an app and they walk you through. No physical sim card.

I’ve purchased the SIM card through three in store before for £13 (not at the airport) and used it in the UK (Scotland and England) and in Italy no problems. I just went to Portugal and used the esim (airalo) and it was pretty easy to install and pretty cheap if you have a code to use (gives you $3 usd off). I’m not sure if you can use the same esim all over Europe though or if it’s per country.

If your phone is e-SIM compatible it's the best way to go. You just change the connection from your physical SIM to the e-SIM. No fiddling with, and potentially losing, your physical SIM.

I just came back from Scotland. I used airalo eSIM. This is actually the second time I used this eSIM. I installed it back in April when I was in France. This time I just topped up the existing eSIM. It worked well in both UK and France. I did see they were selling SIM card at the Edinburgh airport. If your phone takes eSIM, airalo is pretty easy

* It arrived promptly within a few days.

Activating the SIM Card

* Per the instructions, I activated the SIM card prior to my flight by following the steps provided.
* Activation was quick and easy, and I received a confirmation message.

Usage in Multiple Countries

* I used the SIM card in Greece, Montenegro, Italy, and Spain.
* In all countries, the data and calling worked seamlessly without any issues.
* Data speeds were generally good, providing sufficient coverage and connectivity.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

* Convenient to order on Amazon prior to the trip
* Easy activation process
* Reliable coverage and data in multiple European countries
* Affordable compared to roaming charges

Cons:

* Mixed reviews on Amazon, so it's important to read customer feedback
* Only a limited amount of data included (15GB), so additional data purchases may be necessary
* May not be the best option for users with heavy data usage

Tips and Recommendations

* Activate the SIM card prior to your flight to avoid any potential issues upon landing.
* Consider purchasing a larger data plan if you anticipate high data usage.
* Inform your bank about your travel plans to prevent any issues with card usage while using the foreign SIM card.
* Carry a physical copy of the SIM card packaging and activation instructions for easy reference.

Conclusion

Overall, ordering a Vodafone SIM card on Amazon prior to my trip proved to be a convenient and reliable solution for staying connected in multiple European countries. It provided seamless coverage, affordable rates, and easy activation. While there are mixed reviews on Amazon, I highly recommend this option for travelers who prefer the convenience of purchasing before their trip and avoiding potential issues with roaming charges.
