No!!! Even if you booked before Nov 2015, you have to pay for bags(domestic & US). Free checked bag disappeared after September 2014 ticket purchase. I go to Hawaii every December. I didn't pay for bags DEC 2014 trip. However when I booked my Dec 2015 flight on July 2015, I got charged for bags.

I was charged baggage both for international flights and domestic just last summer. I would expect it just to be on the safe side. Word of caution...when travelling from Vancouver to N.Carolina with air canada, I decided to book the exit row so I would have a more enjoyable flight. They ended up charging me double for it (just the upgrade) because of the exchange rate, and their fees to 'process' the exchange rate. Watch out!

Just waiting for WJ flight to Puerto Vallarta. You don't pay for luggage if you've booked a pkg with them.

Baggage Fees with WestJet and Air Canada

When it comes to air travel, one of the most frequently asked questions is whether you have to pay for luggage or not. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at the baggage policies of two major Canadian airlines, WestJet and Air Canada.

WestJet

WestJet's baggage policy varies depending on the type of fare you purchase and your destination. Here's a breakdown:

  • Basic Fare: You are allowed one personal item (such as a small backpack or purse) that fits under the seat in front of you. Any additional checked or carry-on bags will incur fees.
  • EconoFlex Fare: This fare includes one checked bag and one carry-on bag at no additional cost.
  • Premium Fare: With this fare, you can check in two bags and bring one carry-on bag free of charge.

It's important to note that baggage fees can vary based on your destination, the number of bags, and the weight of your luggage. Be sure to check WestJet's website or contact their customer service for the most up-to-date information and fees.

Air Canada

Air Canada's baggage policy is similar to WestJet's, with different allowances based on the fare type:

  • Basic Fare: You are allowed one personal item, such as a small backpack or purse, that fits under the seat in front of you. Additional checked or carry-on bags will incur fees.
  • Standard Fare: This fare includes one checked bag and one carry-on bag at no additional cost.
  • Flex Fare: With this fare, you can check in two bags and bring one carry-on bag free of charge.

Just like WestJet, Air Canada's baggage fees can vary depending on your destination, the number of bags, and the weight of your luggage. It's always a good idea to check Air Canada's website or contact their customer service for the most up-to-date information and fees.

In summary, while both WestJet and Air Canada offer certain baggage allowances based on the fare type, additional fees may apply for excess or overweight luggage. It's crucial to familiarize yourself with the specific baggage policies and fees before your flight to avoid any surprises at the airport.
