My fav was Plitvice National Park. Loved it so much.

Rent an ebike and cycle the islands. Or do a cycling tour with Pedal and Sea tours. Fazana is a nice small town on the Istrian peninsula. Take the ferry to Brijuni National Park. Split is worth a stay.

May is the perfect time to go. Highly recommend Plitvice Lakes. I also enjoyed Split.

What Heather said ! Dubrovnik is sooooo busy but Split was amazing and not as filled with tourists. Take a trip to the islands nearby as well (we went to Brac and liked it a lot). Plitvice lakes is incredible. We went there on a day trip from Split and it is a must see. We went in June-the weather was very warm and we avoided the summer crowds. Everything is significantly cheaper if you avoid July and August. Hope this helps. Make sure you try Burek (a stuffed pastry)

Jeanie I love the sea organ.

Sail Croatia was a 35 person cruise that we went on. Can't say enough good things about it.
Krka National park is a must! And you can swim there.
The Luxor bar in Split has live music every night outside. The waiters bring you drinks on the steps, while you watch people dance.
The cable cars in Dubrovnik are also a must. Make a reservation at the Panorama restaurant at the top of the mountain. You won't be disappointed! Magical views of the ocean and Kings Landing

Hula Bar in Hvar had a great atmosphere! You can hop off the dock and swim in the clear blue water, then go back and drink/eat in the sun

Oh my!!! Thank you everyone!!! This is all great information!

Ashleah Bartel I’d like to add advice to go to Plitvice really early in the morning to beat the crowds. Book your ticket in advance for the hour you wish to go. You can find a nice Airbnb near the park and walk in. Also, if in Dubrovnik visit Lokrum island for a relaxing day in the sun, by the sea.

Hvar and Split are a must see! Go swimming!

Zagreb, Zadar, Split (I especially Omiš) and Dubrovnik are highly recommended. May is a good time to go because the weather will be great but also not high season for tourists.

I went in April, 2015. Hardly any tourists and some hotels/hostels weren’t open yet. I believe prices were going to increase as of May 1st, when things open up, Dubrovnik had the most tourists. Water wasn’t warm enough to swim, so not sure how much warmer it will be in May...perhaps toward end of the month? If you make it to Dubrovnik and ‘walk the wall,’ save your battery for the latter part. I took a lot of pics at the beginning, but there were even better shots/views later on (when my battery died, lol). And if you’re in Dubrovnik, you may as well rent a car and drive into Montenegro. I really like Kotor and Budhva. I did not get onto any of the islands, but I really enjoyed several small coastal towns (their old cities) such as Sibenik, Trogir, Zadar. Opatija just a quick coffee break...wished I had more time. Liked Rovinj. Last, a lot of people ‘knock’ Zagreb, whereas I really enjoyed it. Consider going into Slovenia if you’re in the northern part of the country—it’s a hidden gem.

And I agree with Brazen above...Omis. I only drive through, but it was stunning.
