We want to go to Mexico again next year but feel we have done the Mayan Riviera. Any other recommendations?

I prefer actual cities and not resort destinations. We have really enjoyed Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Ixtapa (Zihua right next is an actual town). I like going to places where people live and work and take the bus, etc. It is also so much more interesting. A friend of ours loves Oaxaca but it is harder to get to from here.

Huatulco, hands down. We've been to the Mayan and to Puerto Vallarta as well , but we liked Huatulco the best.

Las brisas, but it's 8 years ago and the first time we did an all inclusive. Now we try to stay away from them!

Colonial Charm: San Miguel de Allende

Nestled in the heart of central Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its well-preserved colonial architecture, vibrant arts scene, and culinary delights. Stroll through the charming cobblestone streets, admire the colorful facades of historic buildings, and immerse yourself in the lively plazas where mariachi bands serenade visitors.

Natural Wonders: Copper Canyon

Venture into the rugged and breathtaking Copper Canyon, a vast network of canyons in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. Larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon, this natural marvel offers hiking trails, scenic train rides, and opportunities to experience the rich culture of the indigenous Tarahumara people. Witness stunning vistas, cascading waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna.

Underwater Adventures: Isla Mujeres

Just a short ferry ride from Cancun, Isla Mujeres offers a tranquil escape from the bustling Riviera Maya. This picturesque island is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and exceptional snorkeling and diving opportunities. Explore the Underwater Museum of Art, an unique attraction featuring submerged sculptures, or simply bask in the laid-back island vibe.

Cultural Immersion: Oaxaca

Oaxaca, a vibrant city in southern Mexico, is a haven for those seeking authentic cultural experiences. Wander through the colorful markets, visit ancient ruins like Monte Albán, and indulge in the region's renowned cuisine, which includes moles, mezcal, and artisanal chocolate. Attend festivals celebrating indigenous traditions, and witness the rich tapestry of Oaxacan art and craftsmanship.
