Going to Italy and Croatia and/or Greece for 3 weeks in September. Would you suggest just going to two countries in that time period? If so would you pick Croatia or Greece and why? Also suggestions as to highlights and areas not to be missed would be appreciated.

Haven’t been to Greece but Croatia is absolutely amazing!! By far my favourite country to date!! The people are amazing, it’s cheap, and the food is delish! There’s also many beautiful beaches!! Split was definitely my favourite, but other highlights were Dubrovnik (which is definitely the most touristy) and Hvar! In Hvar, we rented a boat for $100 for the day and went and explored different Croatian islands! We spent 2 weeks in Croatia but easily could’ve spent more so I’d definitely recommend picking one or the other! Croatia would definitely be cheaper and has a lot of the same things Greece would have to offer! But if you really enjoy history and such, then I’d go to Greece!

Yes agree have not been to Greece but Croatia is beautiful! People are amazing, food is great and lots to do. Plitvice National Park has hundred of waterfalls, the Zadar sea organ is amazing and Korcula island was simple astonishing! Stay within the old city if you can, magnificent views of crystal clear water!

I have been to all three countries. I spent two weeks in Italy alone. I would probably choose Italy and Greece!

2 likely - we were in Greece and Turkey in
September and Mykonos was starting to clear out...less restaurants open etc. Kind of nice that it was quiet, but.... something to keep in mind

I haven't been to Croatia but have been to Greece twice and love it, the food is amazing!!!! I'm a mountain/hiking girl, definitely recommend Delphi, Meteora, the Corinth and Olympic ruins are magical!! Santorini wasn't my favorite, but I know lots of people who love it.

2 countries. I’d do Italy first, work your way up to Venice and take a high speed cataraman ferry over to pula Croatia and work your way down the Croatian coast. Greece is another 3 week trip in itself.

I worked in all three at one point and if it’s between Greece and Croatia I’d say Greece (if you are thinking of the island). Athens is awful and not worth more than a day. See the Parthenon if your interested and that’s it but if you can, fly straight to the islands. Croatia is the poor man’s Greece: its 60% of the cost for 80% of the beauty and charm of Greece. So totally depends on your budget and how much you need to stretch it...

I think 3 countries would be doable depending on how many places you’re trying to stay in each. 1 week in Greece split between max. 2 islands. There are many options for islands, Mykonos and Santorini being more expensive than others. But I would pick santorini over Mykonos. Transit around the island is pretty good so it doesn’t matter too much where you stay. We have also loved Paros and Naxos and are within reasonable distance from santorini and Athens via the ferry.

Depends what you are interested in. Have been to both. Both have advantages. Greece has more historical sites.

Exploring Italy, Croatia, and Greece in 3 Weeks

Ah, the allure of the Mediterranean! With just three weeks to spare, you're faced with a delightful dilemma: Should you focus on two countries or attempt to conquer all three? While each destination offers its own unique charm, it's wise to consider the logistics and your personal preferences.

Two Countries in Three Weeks: A Balanced Approach

For a more immersive and relaxed experience, limiting your journey to two countries in three weeks might be the ideal choice. This approach allows you to delve deeper into the cultural nuances, savor the local cuisine, and explore the treasures of each destination without feeling rushed.

Croatia: A Coastal Gem

If you opt for Croatia, you'll be treated to a captivating blend of history, natural beauty, and coastal allure. Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a must-visit, with its ancient city walls, narrow alleyways, and charming Old Town. The islands of Hvar and KorĨula offer a more laid-back atmosphere, perfect for soaking up the sun and savoring the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Don't miss the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, where turquoise pools and cascading waterfalls create a mesmerizing natural spectacle. Split's historic center, with the Roman Palace of Diocletian, is another highlight that transports you back in time.

Greece: Ancient Wonders and Island Hopping

Greece, on the other hand, promises a journey through time, with its ancient ruins and mythological tales woven into every corner. Athens, the cradle of Western civilization, is home to iconic sites like the Acropolis and the Parthenon, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Greece.

Beyond the mainland, the Greek islands beckon with their whitewashed villages, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant nightlife. Santorini's breathtaking caldera views, Mykonos' lively atmosphere, and Crete's rich history and culinary delights are just a few highlights that await.

Highlights and Tips

Regardless of your choice, here are some highlights and tips to make the most of your three-week adventure:

  • Italy: Explore the eternal city of Rome, marvel at the Renaissance masterpieces in Florence, and indulge in the culinary delights of Tuscany.
  • Croatia: Wander through the charming streets of Zagreb, sail along the Dalmatian Coast, and sample the region's renowned wines.
  • Greece: Discover the archaeological treasures of Delphi, hike the stunning Samaria Gorge in Crete, and immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of Mykonos.
  • Travel Smart: Book accommodation and transportation in advance, especially during peak seasons, to avoid disappointment and higher prices.
  • Be Flexible: While planning is essential, leave room for spontaneity and local recommendations, as they often lead to the most memorable experiences.

No matter which path you choose, the Mediterranean region promises an unforgettable journey filled with rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality. Embrace the adventure, savor the flavors, and create lasting memories in these enchanting destinations.
