Booked a crazy cheap deal to Ixtapa in April. I have a car any recommended things to do or see?!

Karla, I am in Ixtapa right now! If you like cycling, there is a very good cycling path through an ecological park. It starts at the marina in Ixtapa and goes to Playa Linda. There are even crocodiles at the end of the path in Playa Linda! Where are you staying? Many hotels have bikes available to use.
You don't really need a car as Ixtapa is small enough to walk around and you can take the local bus to Zihuatanejo and Playa Linda.

Kim Schneider Minifie hey! The only reason I really have a car is I’m staying at a condo and the taxi fare is $35 from the airport one way and the car was 48!

Karla you're right, the taxi is $35 from the airport. Alternatively, you can get a shuttle from the airport for 150 pesos per person which is about $11 CAD.

Debbie Emporio Hotel. They offer the option of no food, breakfast only or all inclusive.

Accommodation under $100 per night is usually not on the beach, if that's important to you. There are two public access points to the beach but that means you have to pack your supplies with you to go to beach. If your budget allows, it is so much more convenient to be right on the beach.

Bruce Zihuatanejo and Playa Linda are fine.

For those planning a trip to Ixtapa, it is quite hot, 30 Celsius plus every day with no rain. The beach is beautiful, the sand and ocean are clean. The water is warm with two to four foot waves near the shore.
There are many restaurants in Ixtapa that are a safe and easy walk around town.

Can you recommend a place to snorkel from the beach? Or company?

Many snorkel off of los gatos and have amazing pictures, join Zihuatanejo lets chat on facebook and you will see many pictures and things to see and do, you can also ask any questions you need answers to there.

Isla Ixtapa. To get there, you can take the local bus to Playa Linda and then there are small boats that take people back and forth to the island which is just a few minutes away.

Zihuatanejo is a definite must see. Lots of great restaurants.

Doug and others can you be a little more specific? How to get there? Taxi? Cost? bus? Safety? Places to see and eat at?

Debbie there are at least 20 to 30 cafe style restaurants in Ixtapa which are all within a few blocks of each other so if you're staying right in Ixtapa, they will be within walking distance. They serve mostly Mexican food, pasta, fish and seafood. There is also pizza and sushi. Those are all in Ixtapa.
To get to Zihuatanejo, you can take the local bus which cost 12 pesos, less than $1, and explore the Mexican city which has many more restaurants to choose from. Zihuatanejo is only about 10 minutes from Ixtapa by bus.

Debbie taking the bus during the day is fine to get there. Very cheap. I’d be taking a taxi back as I’d be afraid of not getting on the right bus. Definitely take taxis at night. They run between 80-100 pesos.
We always take a taxi to either the basketball courts down by the beach or Bandito’s and would walk around from there. Lots of taxis in Z so easy to catch one back.

My wife and I are currently in Zihuatanajo on vacation and lovin' it. Central Zihua is great for walking and exploring. Restaurants are plentiful and very cheap. Most take credit cards. I bought $500 worth of pesos from my bank in Calgary before leaving. That was a good choice. Warning - If you get a rental car in Zihuatanejo, make sure you have a letter from your credit card company stating the card covers insurance. Otherwise there is a very hefty charge from the rental company for insurance. Taxis are incredibly cheap and plentiful. Much better than renting and the drivers know the roads and traffic better than you do. 510 pesos from ZIH to anywhere in Zihua. 50 pesos from hotels to central Zihua, 100 pesos each way from Zihua to Ixtapa.

Been going to Zihuat for over 15 years, was the first place I have ever travelled too. You have to go to playa las Gatas in Zihuatanejo. Go to the main Harbour and take a scenic boat taxi across the bay and spend the day at a beautiful serene beach. It’s awesome for snorkeling. Ixtapa island is also absolutely incredible, one side amazing for snorkeling while the other side is perfect for swimming. If you are looking for some tasty food Espuma is pricy but wellll worth it. Views from the restaurant are out of this world!! The only think i would say is to stay away from the boardwalk in Zihuat when it gets dark. When travelling between ixtapa and zihuat I would personally just take a taxi, would hate to end up on the wrong bus. Hope you enjoy ixtapa/Zihuat and don’t be afraid to go to a couple local events held in the main square of Zihuat. People are super friendly and the culture is ever so prevalent.

Does anyone know if a Visa is need it to enter Mexico? My nanny is from Philippine and on working permit here in Canada.

Kris Canadians do not need a visa. But I do not know about your nanny's situation.

I would recommend pesos. They will take USD but not give you a good exchange rate. And there is no sense paying exchange twice, assuming you are Canadian.
