Check out the casa particular’s. Google it and you should find a number of sites with links to look at them. You can find just rooms in houses to small individual apartments . It’s a very authentic way to stay in Havana !

Havana is very expensive to stay in. We stayed in vadadero in a resort and got a cab to Havana for 70 pesos , was worth it

Ps we met someone in on the street in Cuba , seems shady but he took us to a few great restaurants and set us up with a private tour with many stops and lots to see you wouldn’t see on a regular tour

Definitely stay in Varadero for the best beaches. We stayed at paradisus princesa del mar which was decent. The Havana day tour is also worth it.

I've stayed at Hotel National several years ago. It was a very cool experience to stay there. Havana is a fairly easy city to move around in. Walking, taxi's or tuk tuks. Cigar factory tour, Rum factory tour, walking the malacon, the cemetery, the list goes on. lonely planet is a great source of information that is very accurate.
