Fiji's okay, but I don't think you'd find a flight that flies through Fiji to Bali so it would likely be at least one more flight (two return) - I've been to Fiji 5 times, it's nothing to write home about...unless you've got big $$$ to spend on good food at nice resorts and transfer fees to be in the islands. My husband is Fijian lol. I much prefer Vanuatu, it's gorgeous and the people are so friendly, but it is also expensive (I've never actually stayed at a hotel in Vanuatu but I know they're not cheap and their Vatu (money) is strong, we rent from/stay with friends/family when we go).
I would recommend doing a "stopover/layover" rather than a separate trip so maybe worth looking in to where stopovers would be if you fly to Bali - likely Australia (I LOVE Australia). I have friends in Australia that have been to Bali a few times because it's super cheap to fly there from Aussie.

Yes that's what we were thinking actually - Australia again! We were only there briefly in 2008 and would love to head back! Thx for the feedback - appreciate it!

If you layover in Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul or Manila, you can easily add Kota Kinabalu, Sabah or Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), or Hanoi then Da Nang, Vietnam; or Bangkok or Phuket, Thailand, or yes, Siem Reap, Cambodia to check out the cool famous Angkor Wat. I’ve been to at least 65 countries, sadly not to Bali, Indonesia just because my home town Kota Kinabalu has beautiful beaches too
I collect countries, no plan to go back to the same visited countries except few which inc. Cambodia and Australia. It was so cheap in Seam Reap; massage, spa, food, and the wats are worth to visit.

Adding Destinations to Your Bali Trip

Planning a trip to Bali next winter sounds like a dream come true! Bali is known for its beautiful beaches, lush rice terraces, and vibrant culture. However, if you're looking to add more destinations to your trip, there are a few options to consider:

Cook Islands

The Cook Islands are a group of 15 islands located in the South Pacific. Known for their stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and friendly locals, the Cook Islands offer a more laid-back and secluded atmosphere compared to Bali. Rarotonga and Aitutaki are popular islands to visit, offering a mix of relaxation and adventure activities such as snorkeling, hiking, and cultural experiences.

Fiji

Fiji is another fantastic destination to consider adding to your Bali trip. With over 300 islands to explore, Fiji offers a diverse range of experiences from luxury resorts to budget-friendly accommodations. You can enjoy activities such as diving, snorkeling, and exploring traditional Fijian villages. The friendly locals and vibrant culture make Fiji a memorable addition to your itinerary.

Australia

If you're looking to add a different kind of experience to your trip, consider visiting Australia. From the iconic Sydney Opera House to the Great Barrier Reef, Australia offers a mix of city life, nature, and wildlife. You can explore the vibrant cities of Sydney and Melbourne, visit the stunning beaches of the Gold Coast, or embark on a road trip along the Great Ocean Road. Australia's diverse landscapes and unique wildlife make it a must-visit destination.

Ultimately, the choice of adding destinations to your Bali trip depends on your interests and the amount of time you have for travel. Whether you choose to relax on the beaches of the Cook Islands, immerse yourself in the culture of Fiji, or explore the diverse landscapes of Australia, adding another destination to your Bali trip will surely make it an unforgettable experience.
