Make sure whatever places you stay at have air conditioning. We were in Tuscany in July a few years ago and it was insanely hot with no AC in the one apartment in Lucca. September can be killer hot too.

We loved Sorrento as a home base for visiting the Amalfi Coast! Beautiful beaches! Trains and local bus are efficient for getting around.
Cinque Terre is also beautiful for hiking and landscape!

We spent 5 days in Tuscany at an airbnb. It was a perfect spot to use as a home base. From there we visited most of the area. The landscape is absolutely stunning!I can’t recall the exact spot but it was close to Lucca. You do need to rent a car but very worth it.

Although south, we loved the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Dimora del Podesta was fantastic) and north we stayed in the hills in Framura just outside the Cinque Terre. And staying in Tuscany should be on your list!

The Puglia area. Go online to Senior Discovery tours to see their itinerary for Puglia. Or Rick Steve's tours...not to go, but to see the itineraries and plan yours, then with airbnb. In Tuscany the Lazy Olive...in Rome we stay at the family owned Hotel Golden very central, across from the Borghese Gardens, near the US embassy so quite residential. Bologna is the centre for Italian food, easy day trips via train to Veroba and Ravenna on the Adriatic for its amazing Byzantine mosaics.

The Lake Garda area was amaZing. Any of the little small towns that are on it would be nice to stay at and you can venture to each town

My husband and I are off to Italy from mid September for a month. We would like to rent 2 or 3 different places, quite different from one to the other, and North of Roma, on either side of the country ( Adriatic/Mediterranean)
We love art/history/nature/music… and variety!
Any suggestions?
