Just don't exchange money at the border in Peñas Blancas with the rip-offs. The money changers will be swarming all over you, but in the bank at the border post. You need US $$ to pay for a tourist visa at the Nica border post. Also $30 US upon leaving C.R by air as exit tax or maybe it is included on yr airline ticket.

Yes to everything. You could also fly in in San Jose in CR is easier and bus around.

If she wants to go to Nicaragua it doesn’t make sense to fly into San Jose since it’s way further south and Liberia is much safer than San Jose

But maybe it’s way cheaper to fly there and if she also wants to travel around. I did both and I was fine. Just a suggestion.

Derek I agree. We want to start off in Samara CR and make our way north

Do the tour with c.r Paradise in Tamarindo , it’s guided and it’s all inclusive once you pay for it . It was 150 American and you see a active volcano , shooping, volcanic crater lake and some monkeys on a island. I just did it today and it was good !!

my family moved to coco from Red Deer which is about 30 minutes from Liberia. We have three small children and feel safe as can be here. We have a few condos for rent if you are interested in staying in the area. We love to host families from home! https://www.kijiji.ca/.../playas-del-coco.../1245724894...

Nic. is Beautiful! As long as you are smart about things it is fairly safe as well! You can't take a car over the boarder though, so you would have to go by Bus in Nic. and From Coco Beach ( Near Liberia ) Your looking at a min. $100 Cab ride to the boarder.

I just came back from Nicaragua 3 days ago, I loved it! It’s such a beautiful country. I’ve been to Costa Rica as well. I also really liked it! Nica is SORT of like a cheaper version of Costa Rica! Similar, but at the same time vastly different.

Planning a Trip to Liberia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua

If you're looking to explore the beautiful countries of Costa Rica and Nicaragua in January, you're in for an exciting adventure! Here's what you need to know:

Liberia, Costa Rica

Liberia is a charming city located in the northwestern region of Costa Rica, known for its Spanish colonial architecture and proximity to several stunning beaches. It's a great starting point for your journey, offering easy access to nearby attractions like the Rincón de la Vieja National Park and the beautiful Nicoya Peninsula.

Is Nicaragua Safe?

Nicaragua has often been overshadowed by its more popular neighbor, Costa Rica, but it's a fascinating destination worth exploring. While it's important to exercise caution, as with any travel destination, Nicaragua is generally considered safe for tourists.

The country has made significant strides in recent years to promote tourism and improve safety measures. However, it's always advisable to check the latest travel advisories, stay vigilant, and avoid areas with political unrest or protests.

Why Visit Nicaragua?

Nicaragua offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and historical significance. Here are a few reasons why it's worth adding to your itinerary:

  • Colonial Cities: Explore the colorful colonial cities like Granada and León, with their vibrant markets, stunning architecture, and friendly locals.
  • Volcanic Landscapes: Marvel at the majestic volcanic landscapes, including the iconic Masaya Volcano and the stunning Isla de Ometepe, an island formed by two volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua.
  • Pristine Beaches: Relax on the unspoiled beaches of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, offering opportunities for surfing, snorkeling, and simply soaking up the sun.
  • Eco-Adventures: Embark on thrilling eco-adventures like hiking through lush rainforests, ziplining through the canopy, or exploring the remarkable biodiversity of nature reserves.

Tips for Traveling to Nicaragua

If you decide to visit Nicaragua, here are a few tips to make the most of your trip:

  • Familiarize yourself with the local customs and etiquette to show respect for the culture.
  • Consider joining guided tours or hiring a local guide, especially for off-the-beaten-path destinations.
  • Stay in reputable accommodations and be cautious when exploring unfamiliar areas, especially at night.
  • Pack light, bring insect repellent, and be prepared for hot and humid weather.

With proper planning and precautions, your trip to Liberia, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua can be an unforgettable adventure filled with natural wonders, cultural experiences, and lasting memories.
