Each airline has their own info about what you can bring and links to federal agencies. I would check there first to make sure you get up to date info.

Bring sone snacks and small toys for your 6yr old (I used to pack a special travel bag full of packaged treats and coloring books etc for my sons that they opened on the plane as a surprise...worked like a charm to keep them busy!). Your baby? Plan to feed the baby on take off to avoid her/his ears popping - can be painful.
I don't worry about money so much anymore....with ATMs now everywhere maybe check with your travel agent...

I heard that if you use your visa when you go to pay ask them to charge in pesos

I always had an empty straw cup with me to put to put water into for the wee one to sip on take off and landing. as well, i always had a tad bit of kids gravol (if you are ok with that) on my to give them just in case they got upset tummies. have the older eat a snack at take off and landing as well to help as well.

We just got back from Cancun area with out 4 month old. Bring snacks and some entertainment like books a toy and maybe an iPad for some games. Make sure you use a real bank and not a street ATM to get cash out. If you rent a car make sure you put 500-1000 pesos in the glove compartment for WHEN you get pulled over. Just ask the cop if there is an easier way to take care of the fine and he will ask you for a bribe.......happened to us last week. Have fun!!

6 year old can pack a small backpack with some toys, books, snacks, water bottle (fill it up after security), treats to eat on take off and landing (Starburst, etc). For the baby I always travel with a baby carrier, extra change of clothes/diapers, bib. I always pack some meds like baby Tylenol just in case.

What about car seats anyone bring those, stroller, playpen?
Jenny
On every flight I have been on I have been able to bring a car seat and stroller with me - playpen depending on the airline
Reese
Are car seats needed in Mexico?
Jenny
Yes - law in Mexico requires use of a car seat in vehicles. I am not sure about taxis (in Canada we are exempt in taxis) but if you will be traveling in a vehicle I would bring one.
Erin
Reese no
Nerissa
ask me anything i worked there for 4 years and on an airline... cheers
Sheriss
Pretty much anything. They will go through the baby bag, thoroughly. I have even brought along distilled water for mixing things like baby cereal.
Amber
They take American cash everywhere. I’d suggest bringing cash, much easier for you, especially with s baby.

Weres the best place to get it exchanged?

Flying with Babies and Toddlers: What You Need to Know
Traveling with young children can be an exciting yet daunting experience, especially if it's your first time. Here are some tips to help make your upcoming trip to Cancun with your family a smooth and enjoyable one.
Baby Items Allowed on United Airlines
Most airlines, including United, allow you to bring a wide range of baby essentials on board. Here are some items you can bring for your 19-month-old daughter:
- Baby food and milk (formula or breast milk)
- Bottles and sippy cups
- Diapers and diaper wipes
- Changing pad or mat
- Small toys and books to keep your little one entertained
- Blankets and comfort items (e.g., stuffed animals)
- Stroller or baby carrier (these can usually be checked at the gate)
Money and Currency Exchange
While it's always a good idea to have some local currency on hand for taxis, tips, and small purchases, you don't necessarily need to exchange money beforehand. Most places in Cancun accept major credit and debit cards, including those issued by U.S. banks. However, be sure to inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your card being temporarily blocked for suspected fraud.
If you prefer to have some Mexican pesos on hand, you can exchange money at the airport upon arrival or at your hotel. Airport exchange rates may not be the most favorable, so consider exchanging a small amount there and using ATMs or your card for larger transactions.
Additional Tips
- Pack extra clothing, diapers, and snacks in your carry-on bags in case of delays or lost luggage.
- Bring familiar toys and books to help your children feel comfortable during the flight.
- Consider requesting seats near the front of the plane for easier access to the restrooms.
- Be patient and prepared for potential tantrums or restlessness, as air travel can be challenging for young children.
With a little preparation and an open mind, your first family trip to Cancun with your young children can be a memorable and enjoyable experience. Bon voyage!

I'm leaving on Wednesday to Cancun with my family, 6 year old son, hubby, and my 19 month old daughter. We have never travelled and they have never been on a plane before. Could anyone tell me what baby items I can bring on a plane for a baby on united airlines? Also do I need to go get some money exchanged or can I just bring my bank card down there and take money our?
