Hi Kathryn, someone just asked this same question a few hours ago... I personally don't think it's worth the $650 dollars for the 30 min dinner that you will get to eat there. If you're really set on only going there, then you can try to have your hotel concierge make a reservation for you. That's pretty much the only way now - even if you can speak Japanese they often don't take reservations from "regular people" now... There are other 3 Michelin star sushi restaurants in Tokyo that I would recommend above Jiro - Yoshitake and Saito. If you don't care about Michelin stars there are tons of other amazing places. Jiro is not really regarded as the best place for sushi in Tokyo among people who live there. Have fun and enjoy the city - it's amazing

Agreed. Jiro's isn't the best. Lots of fantastic options as above commenter stated.

Tips for Reserving at Jiro's Sushi Restaurant in Tokyo
If you're a sushi lover and have watched the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi," you know that getting a reservation at Jiro Ono's legendary sushi restaurant in Tokyo is no easy feat. With only 10 seats and a wait time of months (or even years), securing a spot requires patience, persistence, and a few insider tips.
The Reservation Process
As you mentioned, reservations can only be made on the first of the month, one month in advance. This means that if you want to dine at Jiro's in June, you'll need to call on May 1st. Additionally, the person calling must converse in Japanese, as the staff does not speak English.
Tips for Success
- Learn some basic Japanese: While you don't need to be fluent, knowing a few key phrases can go a long way. Practice phrases like "I'd like to make a reservation," the date you'd like to dine, and expressing gratitude.
- Have a backup plan: Due to the high demand, it's likely that you won't get through on your first try. Be prepared to call repeatedly throughout the day, and have alternative dates in mind.
- Consider using a reservation service: Several companies offer reservation services for Jiro's, which can increase your chances of securing a spot. However, these services come with a fee.
- Be patient and persistent: Getting a reservation at Jiro's is a test of patience and persistence. Don't get discouraged if it takes several tries; stay polite and keep trying.
- Enjoy the experience: If you do manage to secure a reservation, savor every moment of the experience. Jiro's is not just about the food; it's about the artistry, tradition, and dedication that goes into each piece of sushi.
Congratulations on deciding to visit Japan and finding a great deal on flights! With some preparation and persistence, you may just be able to cross dining at Jiro's off your bucket list.
