I have never done any world traveling but I am really interested and wanting to start planning and big 3-4 week trip. Are their any suggestions for someone who hasn't done any of that kind of traveling? Places? Thanks!

Great book - found at Chapters if you want to adventure off on your own. Also, safe options for world travel is cruising to capture many country ports or with any global tour groups. Just some thoughts.

Another vote for traveling with Gadventures, especially if this is your first time. Great way to experience something great with a bit of help. SE Asia or South America would be awesome choices.

I vote for a Cruise. Maybe start in the Caribbean, preferably from Puerto Rico, because that way you see the most islands, instead of 'loosing' 2-3 days getting there from Miami. and then getting back. There is so much to see every day on a different island, the ships are full of entertainment at night, you don't hassle with baggage, accommodations or food - basically everything is taken care of. A cruise in the Mediterranean is also amazing. The tours are intense, there is a lot of sightseeing, drinking, etc, but you do end the tour with a lot of new friends that you have spent an intense couple of weeks with.

european tour is amazing.. you can play it by ear and just book last minute flights/accomodation or get a tour guide. i fly from uk to germany for less than $20 one way as it was a last minute deal..

I aways recommend checking out the travbuddy.com website. The forum is great. Very diverse. Covers countries all over the world. And alot of experience there. Everything depends on what you're looking for, when you want to go, interests, budget, how diverse you want it to be. Are you an off the beaten path kind of person, or someone who wants to be in an organized tour. I've been to 43 countires now (mostly backpacking on my own) and absolutely love travelling and definitely encourage it! So with that being said, you need to think about what you'd like out of the experience

I did 3 weeks my first time and spent 5 days in Paris. I did not go to Irleand the first time either. Just England and barely into Scotland. It was more than enough time

I just came back from 5 weeks in Croatia and Slovenia. Amazing people, incredible food, awe inspiring historical sites and a ton of natural beauty. It's also 1/2 the price of Italy and some of the other European destinations. My favourite place to date is still Greece!

I would look into Southeast Asia. You can see A LOT in that amount of time, it's cheap, the weather is always nice, and the people are amazing. Traveling from country to country is cheap and easy and you get a lot more for your money than going to other places that are more expensive (like most of Europe). If your thinking it might be for you, I highly recommend checking out the lonely planet "southeast Asia on a shoestring" book.

Did two weeks in Spain in the spring and loved it. Lots of art and architecture to see also amazing food. Ireland is also cool to see (used to live there) and perhaps less culture shocking since it's an English speaking country. What time of year are you planning to travel?

I'm not sure what time of year yet. I have heard great things about Spain what are your thoughts on Morocco?

Didn't do Morocco, just Barcelona, Ibiza (off season so different from what you'd think), Valencia, and Sevilla... All four cities have something different to offer and were absolutely the best choices we could have made! Book accommodation through airbnb for the full 'local' experience.

Asia! Start off in Thailand and work your way through Cambodia and end in Vietnam. Amazing.

In three weeks. I dunno. Takes 3 full days of travel to get there and back. Figure 2 days bare minimum for jet lag on the way back. Thailand from Bangkok to the islands then island thru Phuket on the way back was crazy last year for us same timeline. No time for you to do 2 other countries unless you want to be in transit almost constantly

True that Peter. I have done but usually try for 5 to 6 weeks. Thailand on its own for 3 weeks is a great bet with a jaunt north to Chiang Mai then down to Ko Samui for some beach. I always thing the adventures of cross country boats buses bikes is part of the holiday! Adventure.

Stay in Hostels and live off the land. Prepare your own food in the communal kitchen they mostly have.

Depends how you want to travel. If you want to experience the real life of the country go to Spain and hike the Camino. If you want to do the tourist thing, begin with a place where the native language is English, like the British Isles. I loved Holland. Italy is incredible. I hiked the Cinque Terra which can be done in a day, or spread it out and stay 2 or 3 nights in each of the 5 villages. Happy travels

If you like history, head to Europe (mostly anywhere is Europe is fantastic, from my experience). If you want awesome hot weather, head to central America, and if you want good weather and cheap, head to SE Asia. The scenery is amazing in New Zealand, and the food is great in Italy. It all really depends on what you are looking for in the world. If you're having trouble deciding, then visiting a relative or a friend who lives on another continent is a good start.

Europe is a great first trip. Fly cheap to Dublin or London and see the big cities. Use ryanair for crazy cheap flights. For example, Dublin to Scotland or England is 10 dollars Canadian all in. From there, see Amsterdam, Barcelona, rome, venice, paris, berlin, and prague. Those are all famous cities and easy enough to visit and navigate for rookie travelers. Stay in hotels to meet other young people who travel. Between ryanair and hostelworld.com you can keep your costs down. If you're interested, message me for more tips.
