Probably 2-3 months out.
I have had really good luck with sell off vacations, sunwing & westjet booking about 6 weeks in advance. Do you know which resort you want to stay at?

Check out Barcelo . Or if you are feeling a bit fancier Valentin imperial maya. Not a mega complex but very nice. No reservations for dinners, all al a cart. Beach and pool service, great beach .
You have to watch for a good deal though .

It's hurricane season end of Sept so might be advantageous to book last minute to see what the weather is looking like.

I've been at that time of year. You just never know. It will be rainy.....but as for dangerous, well, you just don't know until closer to the date.

I went to tulum in September and I loved it! You still get very hot 30plus weather with spurts of shower. It did rain heavy one night out of my 10 days down there. My husband who doesn't do too well in a hot weather survived due to strong breeze and showers.

Book Mayan Riviera Trip: In Advance or Last Minute?

If you're planning a trip to the Mayan Riviera in late September, one of the most important decisions you'll need to make is whether to book your accommodations and flights in advance or wait until the last minute. Both options have their pros and cons, and the best choice for you will depend on your specific travel preferences and budget.

Booking in Advance

Booking your trip to the Mayan Riviera several months in advance can offer several advantages:

  • Wider selection of accommodations: By booking early, you'll have a much wider range of hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals to choose from. Popular properties tend to fill up quickly, especially during peak travel seasons.
  • Lower prices: Airlines and hotels often offer their best rates for early bookings, so you may be able to snag a better deal on flights and accommodations by reserving well in advance.
  • Peace of mind: With your travel plans locked in, you won't have to worry about availability or skyrocketing prices as your travel dates approach.

Last-Minute Booking

On the other hand, some travelers prefer the flexibility and potential savings that come with booking their Mayan Riviera trip at the last minute:

  • Potential discounts: Hotels and airlines may offer deeply discounted rates to fill remaining vacancies or seats as the travel dates draw near.
  • Flexibility: You can adjust your plans based on weather forecasts, personal circumstances, or other factors without being locked into a fixed itinerary.
  • Spontaneity: For some travelers, the thrill of last-minute travel and the freedom to make spur-of-the-moment decisions outweigh the potential drawbacks.

Important Note:

September falls within the hurricane season in the Caribbean, which runs from June through November. If you're considering a last-minute booking, be sure to monitor weather conditions and forecasts to ensure your safety and avoid potential travel disruptions.

Ultimately, the choice between booking your Mayan Riviera trip in advance or at the last minute depends on your personal preferences, budget, and travel style. If you value a wider selection, lower prices, and peace of mind, booking well in advance may be the better option. However, if you prioritize flexibility, potential discounts, and spontaneity, a last-minute booking could be the way to go – just be mindful of the weather and any potential hurricane risks.
