Royalton Hicacos, next door but one, was fabulous.

Sadly the food in general in Cuban resorts is terrible. Doesn't matter if it's 3 star or 5 star. You don't go to Cuba for the food.

Royalton food was outstanding.

We went to Cuba about 4 years ago and did not like it. We've been to Mexico 6 or 7 times and thought it would be roughly the same and we were very disappointed.

Cuba in general is a beautiful country and so worth visiting, however, that being said this was my least favorite of any AI we have visited. It's been a number of years since we were there but at the time we had numerous issues with service. Food in general was nothing special, but certainly wasn't awful. We were there for a wedding as well and it was a lovely service and evening. It looks like you are kind of stuck going regardless, so walk in with realistic expectations and just enjoy the time away with friends and family.

We loved Cuba last year - stayed in 2 different casa particulares (like BnB) which were good, with good (if simple) food and very cheap - definitely not luxurious 5 star though! A destination for the more adventurous traveller, not a resort-o-phile. Finished off with a few lazy days in Royalton.

We were married there and recently went back 4 years after. Best resort we have been to in varadero; second time we stayed in new section and rooms where good; food is good for Cuba...best beach, for sure. We love it there at Paradisus.
Yes very expensive, but best experience for our wedding and we had only 10 people come with us.

I stayed at paradisis princessa del mar as well. Its awesome and much better looking then mexican resorts and very large. You gotta do the royal service side however totally worth it. The breakfast/buffet on the royal service side is much better. Also ask for a room upgrade we got upgraded to a swim out suite for free.

Food at the resorts isn't great because of the US embargo's. Most of which is slowly coming down and availability to better products is increasing.
But if you want a better meal, go off the resorts. Especially if you like seafood. I went to a little restaurant in Havana up on the embankments called La Cannonera (named after the giant cannons just a block away). The restaurant itself was in the back yard of the person's house, and for 15 bucks Canadian they had the best lobster I've ever had. Hands down the best. It was a broiled lobster tail. The tail was the size of a dinner plate. You couldn't get two lobsters this big at Red Lobster. They had live music, the beer was cold and delicious, couldn't ask for better. And I've been told that Varadero has quite a few such humble restaurants, run out of people's homes. There's a word for it but I don't remember the term.

https://www.expedia.ca/Varadero-Hotels-Ocean-Varadero-El.... We stayed here 3 years ago and loved it. The resort, the people, the beach great. Can easily take a day trip to Havana from here which was awesome. Food though...was okay, not awful, not great. We were told by everyone before we went that food is not great in Cuba...but such a great country, beautiful and safe.

Paradisus Varadero Cuba: A Candid Review for Your Upcoming Wedding Trip

Planning a destination wedding is an exciting endeavor, but it's crucial to choose the right venue. If your brother-in-law has selected Paradisus Varadero in Cuba for his big day, you may be feeling a little apprehensive after reading some less-than-stellar reviews. Let's dive into an honest assessment of this resort to help you manage your expectations.

The Location

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Varadero, a renowned beach town in Cuba, Paradisus Varadero boasts a prime beachfront location. The resort's proximity to the turquoise waters and pristine white sands is undoubtedly a selling point. However, keep in mind that Varadero is a popular tourist destination, and the area surrounding the resort can be bustling and crowded during peak seasons.

The Accommodations

Paradisus Varadero offers a range of room categories, from standard guest rooms to luxurious suites. While the rooms are generally well-appointed and comfortable, some guests have reported issues with inconsistent maintenance and cleanliness. It's worth noting that the quality of accommodations may vary depending on the room category and price point.

The Food

This is where the resort tends to receive mixed reviews. While some guests rave about the variety of dining options and the quality of the cuisine, others have been disappointed by the inconsistent food quality and service. The resort features several restaurants, ranging from buffets to à la carte options, but be prepared for potential long wait times and limited selection, particularly during peak seasons.

The Service

Unfortunately, the service at Paradisus Varadero has been a point of contention for many guests. While some staff members are praised for their friendliness and attentiveness, others have been criticized for being unresponsive or indifferent. Language barriers and high staff turnover may contribute to these service issues, but it's important to manage your expectations accordingly.

The Bottom Line

While Paradisus Varadero offers a beautiful beachfront location and decent accommodations, the resort's food and service have been hit-or-miss for many guests. As a family of four attending a wedding, the high cost may not align with the overall experience. However, it's essential to remember that every guest's experience can vary, and with the right mindset and reasonable expectations, you can still make the most of your trip.

Ultimately, the decision to attend the wedding at Paradisus Varadero is a personal one. If you do decide to go, approach the experience with an open mind and focus on celebrating the joyous occasion with your loved ones. And who knows? You may just create unforgettable memories that transcend any potential shortcomings of the resort.
