I did a snorkel trip in Huatulco which takes you to several of the bays (usually you end up in a bay that isn't accessible except by boat). It was organized by my hotel in Puerto Escondido so I can't comment much about it except its a really fun day and to bring snacks - that being said, if you can get to Puerto Escondido (2 hour drive) it is very beautiful there and a surf town (Playa Zicatela has a lot of surfers!) and I highly recommend checking that out.

With its stunning beaches, lush jungles, and crystal-clear waters, this region offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. In this blog post, we'll share some tips and recommendations for making the most of your time in this beautiful part of Mexico.
ATV Adventures
One of the best ways to explore the rugged terrain and hidden gems of the Tangolunda Bay area is by embarking on an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) tour. Several local tour operators offer guided ATV excursions that take you through scenic trails, across rivers, and into the heart of the jungle. These thrilling adventures allow you to experience the area's natural beauty up close while getting your adrenaline pumping.
Waterfall Excursions
The Tangolunda Bay area is home to several breathtaking waterfalls, and a waterfall excursion is a must-do activity during your stay. One of the most popular destinations is the Cascadas de Truck, a series of cascading waterfalls surrounded by lush vegetation and natural pools. Visitors can swim, cliff jump, and even hike behind the falls for a truly unique experience.
Exploring the Bays
The Santa Cruz area is blessed with numerous bays, each offering its own unique charm and beauty. While some bays are more popular and easily accessible, others remain secluded and untouched. One of the best ways to explore these hidden gems is by renting a boat or joining a boat tour. This will allow you to navigate the waters, discover secluded coves, and perhaps even spot dolphins or other marine life.
Snorkeling and Scuba Diving
The crystal-clear waters of the Tangolunda Bay area are a snorkeler's and diver's paradise. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced underwater explorer, there are plenty of opportunities to discover the region's vibrant marine life and colorful coral reefs. Several local dive shops offer guided snorkeling and scuba diving tours, as well as certification courses for those interested in learning.
Shopping and Dining
After all the adventure and exploration, you'll want to take some time to relax and indulge in the local cuisine and shopping. The town of Santa Cruz offers a variety of local markets, boutiques, and artisan shops where you can find unique souvenirs, handcrafted items, and local products. Additionally, there are numerous restaurants serving delicious Mexican and international dishes, many with stunning ocean views.
Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a combination of both, the Tangolunda Bay area has something to offer everyone. With its natural beauty, rich culture, and endless activities, this region is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories.
