We use hotwire a lot when we drive from Kelowna to Phoenix.
Once we know our route, we can usually find great deals on the hotels - tip: it does give you a few better options when you have an account vs if you browse as a guest.
Also, go into settings and change it to CAN$
We regularly find hotels for around $90-$120/night which helps with costs.
That’s a beautiful drive, enjoy!

Tera do you have to do last minute with hot wire? To get the deals - thanks I’ve never used them. Would like to plan but not sure how far away can plan for good deals. Thanks appreciate your recommendations
Kristen
Terry you can do last minute.
Tera
Terry we would be 2-3 hours away and decide we wanted to stop at “x-location” and see where we’d be at that point.
Them, we’d check hotwire and book whatever hotel we wanted from the Deals
It always worked great.
I have booked early also, and there are great deals then also

The Marin Headlands on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge are beautiful. Alcatraz is fun. IMHO the rest of San Fran is a dump rn. I'd rather visit for the day and stay somewhere else. Santa Cruz is great, if you're look for a relatively chill vibe.

Monterey was one of my favourite stops

I use BringFido for my dog-friendly road trips and there are tons of places to stay along the coast.
Be careful in San Francisco as the car break-in/thefts are super bad, even during the day.
Dave
Definitely do Monterey/ Santa Cruz

Hallmark Resort is amazing and dog friendly, cannon beach and Newport Beach. Brookings (southern Oregon) is fabulous. Santa Cruz is a yes, just south of San Fran, Pacifica, Lighthouse Inn. Santa Rosa also lovely . If you have the chance Crater Lake . Really there are SO many places.
Claudia
If you are looking in Cannon Beach I highly recommend the Schooners Cove. Right on the beach. Very nice and reasonably priced.
