Sherry I agree - the pools here were amazing as was the service and food was good too. We went with a person with mobility issues and the resort was not too spread out for her.

Bucuti and Tara Aruba
Linda
Platinum Yucatán Princess. Adults only side. Everything is close including the beach. Some swim out rooms. Food is excellent and no reservations required in the a la carte restaurants.
Terry
Linda loved this resort too!
Larry
Linda been there 2xand had a swim up room, and loved it!
Lindsay
Linda thinking about trying this one! Good to know!!!! Never been to Mexico and nervous to book something new, but hubby is turning 40!
Ivana
Linda I wonder if it improved significantly since opening. We went in 2018 and hated this resort. It was new and clean, and had a lovely design with the swim up pools, etc., but the rest was totally lacklustre.
Audrey
Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta is a lovely small resort big on great service. You won’t be disappointed!
Amy

Rent a shack on the beach, hire a cook/ house cleaner, pay them well, eat the best Mexican food.
Sharon
August How/where do you find these?
August
Sharon there is a sight called friends of melaque Mexico.
Sights like that are good for finding what ever. I know the sight in melaque is good, that’s not to say they are good in other places.

Same criteria I have when going south. Most are mentioned here but a couple more; Holiday Inn San Jose del Cabo, Hotel Emporio Ixtapa (loved this place), las villas akumal (not all inclusive/ has kitchens). We don't like flights longer than around 4 hours, direct flights only
Jenn
Margaritaville island reserve was amazing small resort quiet and very personal

We stayed at the El Cid in Puerto Morelos. I liked that it wasn't huge, but didn't feel cramped. It had a little more of a chill vibe & not a party atmosphere. The resort itself was beautiful, with fantastic food & service. It's also a short walk or cab ride into town which has some amazing restaurants.
My only issue was the beach was just ok, as it was a bit on the rocky side.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Will need a bit of time to research all these resorts and see what fits our budget.

Grand Bay Isla Navidad just outside of Manzanillo. Awesome place - spa, golf, and an all inclusive that allows you to choose off a menu. Direct flight from Calgary. I believe I booked the package through AMA Travel

Barcelo south of Puerto Vallarta. It’s small, but food was so good we didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else. Can walk around the neighbouring village, zoo, or catch a little bus into the south side of PV. Airport shuttle… we’ll go back.

Sandals Royal Plantation

My sister and I who are both in our 60s would like to go south to an all inclusive resort in February. We just want some sun, good food and relaxation. The thing we don’t want is one of those huge spread out resorts that you have to walk half a mile from your room to go to the pool or restaurants. Would love any suggestions.
