Sun Palace in the Cancun hotel zone. It’s a small adults only resort, fantastic food and amazing service.
Rhonda
Irene when were you there? Would love to hear more.
Irene
Rhonda I was there end of January. I spent 3 weeks in Mexico so purchased flights separately. Joined one of the palace Facebook groups and booked through a member. You get a better price and some of their perks. Best food and drinks that I’ve ever had at an all inclusive. When you’re there, you feel like a millionaire.
Rhonda
Irene thank you so much!! How do I find the FB page you had success with, please?
Irene
Rhonda here’s the one I used.
Irene
Rhonda read the rules of the group. They have a few.

I have found that staying at a mid range resort and upgrading the foofoo experience part has been a success for us. Pay extra for the better room, better restaurants etc. We have stayed at the Barcelo along the Mayan coast - it has 4 or 5 buildings - business/low end/mid range/high end. Many things for kids, but also some adult only spots and nicer restaurants for the ones who are on a different kind of trip. A shopping mall in the middle. The food was good in the 'Palace' wing with foo foo treatment.
Brigitte
Location you are planning would be helpful.
Janice
Brigitte we are thinking around Cancun and Riviera Maya area and not too far from the airport. Huatulco will be a great spot if we can find the sweet deal

I stayed at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso and it was amazing! The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Right now they have an incredible sale but I am not sure if it is valid for December.
Christin
Marie we’ve been there twice. It’s one place I’ll go back to time and time again! I miss maya bringing us drinks by the pool.

Try tripcentral.ca and go to the classic grid. Enter the parameters you'd like to search and it'll put up a nice chart of the lowest prices of the countries in each month. If you find something you like, check the tripadvisor.com for reviews; read them with a grain of salt but they're usually pretty good. Then if you have a loyalty program, check their website for the vacation. tripcentral doesn't have every possibility but it's great to determine when and where to go.

Does she like the party scene? That's the big hotels near the airport in Cancun. We just were in the Iberostar Puerto Mita and absolutely loved it. The food was amazing. It's North of PV, so on the west side of Mexico, but it's also an hour shorter flight to get there, which you MIL may appreciate.

My husband and I were at the Iberostar Parasio Lindo in April and it was fantastic, I would highly recommend.
We are returning to Mexico in January and have been recommend the Grand Riveria Princess, Catalonia Playa, Margaritaville Cancun or Wyndham AllTra…we just need to decide on which one.
The agent tells us these are all similar in amenities, distance and beach expectation compared to Iberostar Lindo.
We would return to Lindo but defiantly like to switch things up.
Sharon
Jaime Wyndham Alltra in Playa del Carmen does not have its own beach. We were there last year and the beach was next door.
Nice hotel. Small, adults only.
Annette
We have stayed at many
Secret resorts and they have all been pretty good and Adults only !
Cheryl
We've stayed a quite a few in the Mayan. We only book adult only resorts where you do not need to make dinner reservations. The Excellence Riveria Cancun is great. Great food, beach and fantastic service. The El Dorado Royale is exceptional for food. The beach isn't quite as nice as the Excellence but it is an amazing resort. The Valentin is also great but I haven't been to that one for a few years.
Charity
Check out the Princess in Mayan Riviera, they have a fully adult only, the Yucatan Princess, but allows you access to all other sides of the resort (the older Grand Sunset) with more choice on restaurants and stuff. Haven’t been in a while but the beach was great. The yucatan was brand new when I was there and we were a large group and everyone loved it!
Nadia
Barcelo mayan riviera! Adults only section has amazing food!! And you can access the rest of the family friendly sister resorts, all side by side.
Alec
Stay away from the Mayan Riviera on the Atlantic side as the Sargassum seaweed is atrocious!
Go to the Pacific coast and the Grand Palladium in PV has an infinity party pool like no other, tons of fun!!!
Marie
Hyatt zilara adult only riviera maya. Smallish and brand new. Check it out
Cathy
Our favourite resort with fantastic food is Riu Palace Pacifico, Nuevo Vallarta. Also no seaweed on the Pacific side unlike Cancun area.

Best Mexico Resorts for a Multigenerational Trip
Planning a trip to Mexico with family members of different ages and interests can be a bit challenging, but it's definitely doable with the right resort choice. Based on your preferences, here are some recommendations for resorts that could be a great fit for your upcoming trip with your husband and mom.
Family-Friendly Resorts
If you're leaning towards a family resort, consider the following options:
- Grand Velas Riviera Maya: This luxury all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya region offers something for everyone. Your mom can enjoy the tranquil adults-only pool and spa, while you and your husband can take advantage of the numerous activities and amenities for couples and families. The resort is known for its exceptional cuisine and impeccable service.
- Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Esmeralda: Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, this resort features separate sections for families and adults-only, allowing you to choose the best fit for your needs. The resort boasts multiple pools, a beautiful beach, and a variety of dining options.
Adult-Only Resorts
If you prefer an adults-only atmosphere, consider these resorts:
- Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun: This AAA Five Diamond resort offers a peaceful, romantic setting with unlimited luxury amenities. While your mom may enjoy the tranquility, you and your husband can take advantage of the resort's activities and lively entertainment.
- Excellence Playa Mujeres: This all-suite, adults-only resort in Cancun is renowned for its exceptional service, gourmet dining, and stunning beach. The resort offers a variety of activities, including cooking classes, dance lessons, and water sports, which could be enjoyable for all three of you.
Regardless of whether you choose a family or adults-only resort, the Cancun and Riviera Maya regions offer plenty of options with excellent food and amenities to suit your needs. Remember to consider factors like proximity to the airport, accessibility for your mom, and the overall vibe of the resort.
Happy planning, and enjoy your multigenerational trip to Mexico!

Hello!
I plan to go to Mexico in early December with my husband and my mom. Any recommendations for the resorts?
My mom is in her early 60s but not too active. She will enjoy some time in the water but that is about it. My husband and I are debating weather we should choose a family resort or adult-only resort. We experienced both but not quite sure for this time with my mom. Any recommendations from your experience?
(I think it will be an absolute bonus if the food is excellent!)
Update: Cancun and Riviera Maya will be a great locations for us-not too far from the airport. Huaultoco will be excellent if we can find the sweet deal!
