If you go to the North Shore, definitely check out Giovanni Shrimp Truck. In Waikiki, Chuck’s Celllar in the basement of Ohana East- great prime ribs, cozy and music; Hula Grill has amazing Hula Pie. A couple other restaurants to check out is Pig and the Lady and Duke’s Waikiki. If you like beer, go to the Ala Moana Mall, and head down to Shirokiya Japan Village Walk. It is a food court and you can get $1.00 beers and $3.00 wines and the food selection is amazing. Use the transit, very easy to get around. Parking in the Waikiki area is expensive.

And you definitely have to have the Hawaiian poke bowls and Acai bowls. Island Vintage Coffee makes the best Acai bowls.

If you love to walk, you can walk the entire perimeter of Diamond Head (from the residential areas down to the hidden beaches only the locals use). The ocean is really beautiful and you feel completely alone--not like you are in a tourist mecca at all!!!

Definitely SKIP a luau. We would have enjoyed a quiet dinner out instead of dinner with 100 of our “new best friends”. (Had to try once though)
Lots to see even just walking around. All of the above recommendations are fabulous
Check out the Honolulu cookie company. Just YUM!

<p>Honolulu Travel Guide

Honolulu Travel Guide

Aloha, Shaina! Here's a detailed guide to help you make the most of your upcoming trip to Honolulu.

Things to Do

  • Waikiki Beach: No trip to Honolulu is complete without spending time at the iconic Waikiki Beach. Relax on the golden sand, swim in the warm waters, or try your hand at surfing.
  • Diamond Head State Monument: Hike to the top of this iconic volcanic crater for breathtaking views of Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.
  • Pearl Harbor National Memorial: Pay tribute to the events of December 7, 1941, at this historic site, which includes the USS Arizona Memorial and other exhibits.
  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve: Snorkel or simply admire the vibrant marine life at this protected bay, which was once a volcanic crater.
  • Iolani Palace: Step back in time at the only royal palace in the United States, which served as the residence of Hawaii's last reigning monarchs.

Restaurants

  • Duke's Waikiki: Enjoy delicious Hawaiian cuisine and stunning ocean views at this iconic beachfront restaurant.
  • Highway Inn: Indulge in authentic Hawaiian plate lunches, including kalua pork, lau lau, and haupia (coconut pudding).
  • The Pig and the Lady: Experience a modern twist on classic Vietnamese flavors at this popular eatery.
  • Marukame Udon: Savor fresh, handmade udon noodles at this casual Japanese restaurant.
  • Morimoto: Treat yourself to an upscale dining experience at this acclaimed Japanese restaurant by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto.

Things to Avoid

  • Overcrowded Beaches: While Waikiki Beach is a must-visit, it can get extremely crowded. Consider exploring other nearby beaches like Kaimana Beach or Ala Moana Beach Park for a more relaxed experience.
  • Overpriced Souvenirs: Be cautious of overpriced souvenirs and trinkets sold in touristy areas. Instead, visit local craft fairs or markets for more authentic and reasonably priced items.
  • Unreliable Transportation: Avoid relying solely on ride-sharing services or taxis, as they can be expensive and unreliable during peak hours. Consider renting a car or using public transportation like TheBus for more convenience and cost-effectiveness.
  • Tourist Traps: Be wary of overly touristy attractions or experiences that may be overpriced or lacking in authenticity. Do your research and seek recommendations from locals or reputable sources.

Mahalo (thank you) for reading, and enjoy your time in the beautiful island of Oahu!
