Thanks to this page we are heading to Ireland next July, thanks Chris!
So our first question, what’s the best way to rent a car? Any great companies? Not interested in picking up from the airport if at all possible.

Costco - used them for our trip to Ireland 3 years ago….seem less!
If you have a visa avion, use it as they will cover the additional insurance fees charged in Ireland.
The most difficult part was learning to drive a manual from the right side on the car.

If you're flying into Dublin, just FYI the the city centre is like driving on hard mode - lots of one way stretches in what looks like a two way street and intersections where you have to go around a corner to stay on a straight path. The traffic can be incredibly heavy, especially around Trinity and along the quays. Make sure you have some kind of GPS nav system, and if you can, pick up from somewhere outside of the city centre. I lived near Merrion Square and the Hertz in Ballsbridge was easy to get to and easy to take off from.

Sarah thank you for this. We ended up renting the car from expedia, under $500 for 11 days. We are picking it up at Q-Park Marlborough. Hoping it won’t be to bad.

You might want to check if this info is still valid. We rented a few years ago in Dublin with I think Enterprise. To get them to waive the liability with your credit card (if covered) we had to provide a printed copy of this to them, otherwise would have been required to buy this insurance from them. They also required a deposit of 2000 euros that you can use your credit card for. We had the option of authorizing either in Cdn $ equivalent or Euros, if so choose Cnd $, we picked Euros and got burned on the exchange rates.
Have fun!
