You can probably do Cuba for that price. Amazing beaches and people, but the food is just awful.
Personally, I prefer Jamaica the most.

I don’t know if it would fit in the budget but we had a blast at the Grand at Moon Palace in Cancun. You have access to all Palace resorts in that area and they have a water park plus indoor play areas our kids loved when it was too hot midday. The food was great. There’s golf and awesome kid friendly activities.

You might be shocked at pricing... Travel really seems to be quite high for the coming high season thanks to all the cancelled trips and the algorithms used for pricing. ....

Profile picture of Mary

Mary

Janet what do you mean algorithms?

Profile picture of Scott

Scott

Mary pricing is set by calculations made by various avenues of demand. Let’s say if a bunch of people are searching certain dates, prices will naturally increase.

Profile picture of Janet

Janet

Mary travel pricing is based on supply and demand. Internet searches are a driving factor in the complex algorithms now used. As more people dream of travel and rebooking cancelled trips, every search, app use and login to a website goes into those algorithms... The result is huge demand (based on the above) and very little supply (many destinations and properties/resorts are still closed partially or fully)... It's a perfect storm for travel pricing increases.

But with your budget for 6 adults and 3 oids, price for plane tickets for Thailand, regular price around 1200$-1300$ per person (often on sale between 700$-800$) this will take most of your budget.

Profile picture of Wendy

Most likely renting a villa will bring the cost in - and then you can cook to help with the cost. Find something walking distance to beach and groceries (or on a good bus route) to avoid renting a car or taking taxis. So then you just have to find where the best airfares from the your city are - and where they are still flying (Canadian airlines aren't showing flights for lots of destinations at the moment)

Profile picture of Kaley

Kaley

GiGi Hurst i am a single mother with 3 kids, and i am not rich, nor have money from any other source besides my own income and gov baby money. I have brought my kids all over including mexico multiple times, jamaica multiple times, panama, costa rica, thailand, all through usa, and more. The secret is let the flight deals decide when and where you go. Use airbnb it or agota for houses and hotels. Travel does not have to be as expensive as its put out there. Besides, even a budgeted trip is still a trip where great memories are made

Profile picture of Jasmine

Jasmine

GiGi Hurst I never do package deals --make your own and don't go All Inclusive. I use google flights for tracking destinations (YouTube has lots of tutorials on how to use google flights) . I usually fly air transit, swoop or interjet from T.O. Right now for example, you can fly from T.O to Cancun, return for about $350 a person, any month this winter ! I try to keep flights under 400 pp by searching months before you intend to travel. I use expedia or airbnb for hotels or rentals. In Playa del Carmen or Tulum you should be able to find a beautiful rental for the week for as little as $80 a night (when you search on expedia, get it to filter by price and then put in your other parameters like pool, rating etc and you will get the hits that match your parameters starting with the cheapest find). We often do groceries once in town, and eat out for dinners and treats. I aim to spend about $2000 on flights, 1200 on hotel for week, and then remainder on things like food, taxis, park admission, shopping. I do this year after year for a family of 5 and we travel March break typically.

Profile picture of Jasmine

Jasmine

Here's an example of an apart-hotel in Tulum, week of march break, deluxe apartment at 57.00 a night ...pair that with the swoop flights right now, and that's one super affordable holiday! These aren't really covid prices either, just typical of what you can find digging around well in advance of high season https://www.expedia.com/Tulum-Hotels-Etnica-Tulum-Residences.h49288994.Hotel-Information?chkin=2021-03-13&chkout=2021-03-20&destType=MARKET&destination=Tulum%2C%20Quintana%20Roo%2C%20Mexico&pwa_ts=1603140310491&referrerUrl=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZXhwZWRpYS5jb20vSG90ZWwtU2VhcmNo&regionId=553248632557170387&rfrr=HSR&rm1=a2&selectedRatePlan=270247338&selectedRoomType=229500463&semdtl=&sort=PRICE_LOW_TO_HIGH&top_cur=USD&top_dp=49&useRewards=false&x_pwa=1

I go every year to Mexico ( Cancun area) for 10 to 12 days. 2 adults 2 kids. We spend no more than 4K with a car included. We buy our tickets for around 500 bucks each.( not a direct flight) We rent with airbnb. ( beach front) we cook our meals. Last January we spent 40 days in Brazil. We must go where the Canadian $ is stronger. Well, if you're in a budget like me. This year we're not going to Mexico but I wish you and your family a great trip.

Jasmine I manage a 24 unit condo complex right in Grace Bay, depending on the season rates can go anywhere from $225/night to $450/night USD(excluding Christmas) for a 2 bdr/ 2 floor condo with a fully operational kitchen. There’s some other condo complexes or airbnb’s that are similar pricing. You can rent a car for about $50 a day, but you don’t necessarily need one if you’re staying in Grace Bay. The grocery stores are quite expensive, the closer to the airport you go the cheaper they get. I always recommend eating two meals at home/ one out so you can experience the local food as well.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. We love Sosua for the calm waters, we like to snorkel. We purchased property but, in the past stayed at both airbnbs and an All inclusive resort called Casa Marina. It has its own beach, access to Playa Alicia and only a 15 min walk from to Playa Sosua. If you are planning only a short trip (a week or 2) this resort is a good no thought Vacay with your accommodations, food, drink etc included. The area is a short taxi drive to a lot of fun spots to check out like Mount Isabella, Fricolandia (I haven't been yet but, saw some videos on youtube), Castillo Mondo King, Rugama etc (they all have a Facebook page. Some have IG too). You can see lots of photos I've taken of our trips on my ig @julesdrdream. When you get bored of the food or activities on the resort you have easy access to the town. There are lots of local spots like Cheers etc in town were you can chat with an expat or go souvenir shopping.

I'd avoid all-inclusive resorts and stay in an airbnb. You can rent a villa in many countries for $100 - 150 per night. You don't pay by the head. Airfare will be your biggest expense. Food and drink in markets are cheaper than restaurants and become part of the fun. I have even paid for a local person to cook an authentic meal. Adventure is where you find it and depends on your interests.
For tropical consider the Caribbean or Mexico. I'd also consider the Algarve in Portugal or southern Spain which aren't exactly tropical, but are still warm.

Best Tropical Vacation Destination for 6 Adults and 3 Kids

Planning a tropical vacation for a group of 6 adults and 3 kids under 5 can be a bit challenging, but with a budget of over $12,000, you have plenty of options to choose from. For a mix of beach and adventure, with water parks for the kids, there are a few destinations that come to mind.

1. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is a popular choice for families looking for a tropical getaway. With its stunning beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and plenty of activities for both adults and kids, it's a great option for your group. You can find resorts with water parks for the kids, as well as opportunities for snorkeling, zip-lining, and more.

2. Phuket, Thailand

Phuket offers a perfect mix of beach relaxation and adventure. You can rent a villa on Airbnb for your group, giving you the flexibility to explore the island at your own pace. The kids will love the water parks in the area, while the adults can enjoy the beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife.

3. Cancun, Mexico

Cancun is another great option for a family vacation. With its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and numerous all-inclusive resorts, it's a paradise for both adults and kids. You can visit water parks like Xel-Ha and Xcaret, or explore the Mayan ruins nearby for a dose of adventure.
